What it does

Const Let is an agent skill from thedaviddias/Front-End-Checklist. Use when reviewing scripts, client components, bundles, or runtime behavior related to Prefer const and let over var. Inspect both source code and the browser execution path so fixes target the real bottleneck or bug.

Its SKILL.md is about 470 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/rule.md`).

The repository describes itself as: 🗂 The essential checklist for modern web development, for humans and AI agents. The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/const-let”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit e8d14d0. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • frontendchecklist.io

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Const Let loads about 469 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.1k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 57 tokens; SKILL.md has 209 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~57
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~469
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.1k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Prefer const and let over var

var's function scope and hoisting behavior regularly causes bugs where variables are accessible outside the block they were declared in. const and let enforce block scope and make code intent clearer — const signals that a binding should not be reassigned, which helps readers understand data flow.

Quick Reference

  • Use const for values that are never reassigned
  • Use let when reassignment is needed
  • Never use var — it has function scope and is hoisted, causing subtle bugs
  • const does not mean immutable — objects and arrays declared with const can still be mutated

Check

Scan this JavaScript file for any use of var and flag every occurrence with line numbers.

Fix

Replace all var declarations with const or let as appropriate. Use const when the variable is never reassigned, let otherwise.

Explain

Explain why const and let are preferred over var, covering scope, hoisting, and temporal dead zone.

Code Review

Review scripts, client components, and browser execution paths related to Prefer const and let over var. Flag exact imports, event handlers, runtime side effects, or blocking operations that violate the rule, and state how the change should be verified in the browser.
