capcut-directorGuides an agent in building and polishing CapCut Desktop video projects through the CapCut MCP server and direct timeline file edits, including vertical canvas, subtitles and audio.
This skill explains how CapCut Desktop stores projects and how to edit them without losing work. Project folders on Windows and macOS hold a root draft_content.json plus, in CapCut 9.x and later, a Timelines folder per timeline. The app reads the timeline copy, so writing only the root file opens an empty timeline, and both have to be written.
Because CapCut loads a project into memory and has no file watcher, its autosave overwrites outside edits. The skill says to close CapCut before modifying draft files and to reopen from the home screen afterwards, as part of a .locked rule for the process lifecycle. A vertical project such as 1080x1920 needs explicit canvas_config settings, or the preview falls back to widescreen. Further sections cover mobile subtitle and typography sizing, audio mastering and companion rendering.

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cfa4779. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

CapCut Video Director loads about 1.7k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 86 tokens; SKILL.md has 639 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

├── draft_meta_info.json <-- Project name, thumbnail, edit time
├── draft_cover.jpg <-- Cover thumbnail
├── .locked <-- Lock file present while project is open in CapCut

Timelines/<UUID>/draft_content.json, NOT the root file alone! If you only write to the rootdraft_content.json(as standard legacy MCP libraries do), CapCut will open an empty timeline. Always write to both the root and the active timeline directory.
CapCut Desktop loads project files into C++ RAM upon opening and does not feature a live file watcher.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, CapCut Video Director needs the command-line tools its instructions call (ffmpeg). Our summary lists: CapCut Desktop; The CapCut MCP server.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
CapCut Video Director is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.7k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 6.9k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
