What it does

Datadog is an agent skill from speakeasy-api/gram. Use Datadog MCP tools to investigate logs, metrics, traces, and incidents for the Gram project. Activate when the user asks about errors, performance issues, incidents, latency, or wants to search telemetry data.

Its SKILL.md is about 750 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Agent Workflows, covering MCP servers. It works with Datadog and Model Context Protocol. The repository describes itself as: Securely scale AI usage across your organization. A single stack to Connect, Secure, Observe and Distribute agents, MCPs, and Skills within your company. The licence is AGPL-3.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Asks about errors
  • Performance issues
  • Wants to search telemetry data

Example prompts

  • “/datadog”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 4d32da1. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Datadog loads about 754 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 55 tokens; SKILL.md has 240 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~55
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~754

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Datadog Observability — Gram Project

Gram Services

Always filter by the relevant service(s) when querying Datadog:

ServiceDescription
gramDashboard frontend (RUM)
gram-dashboardDashboard backend
gram-serverMain backend API server
gram-workerTemporal worker
flyFly.io — where Gram Functions logs are collected

Available Tools

Use only the following Datadog MCP tools unless the user explicitly asks for others:

Logs
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__search_datadog_logs — Search and filter log events
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__analyze_datadog_logs — Analyze log patterns and aggregate stats
Metrics
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__get_datadog_metric — Get a specific metric's time-series data
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__get_datadog_metric_context — Get context and metadata for a metric
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__search_datadog_metrics — Search available metrics by name
Traces & Spans
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__get_datadog_trace — Get a specific trace by ID
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__search_datadog_spans — Search spans (useful for latency investigation)
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__aggregate_spans — Aggregate spans (counts, percentiles) grouped by tags such as resource_name or @http.status_code
Incidents & Monitors
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__search_datadog_incidents — Search active/recent incidents
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__get_datadog_incident — Get details for a specific incident
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__search_datadog_monitors — Find monitors and their current state
RUM & Events
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__search_datadog_rum_events — Search Real User Monitoring events (frontend errors, sessions)
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__search_datadog_events — Search Datadog events stream
Services & Infrastructure
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__search_datadog_services — Discover services in APM
  • mcp__datadog-mcp__search_datadog_service_dependencies — View service dependency map

Guidelines

  • Always scope queries to one or more Gram services using the service filter when available.
  • Start narrow, expand if needed: Query a 15–30 minute window first, then widen.
  • For error investigations: start with search_datadog_logs, filter by status:error, then follow trace IDs with get_datadog_trace.
  • For latency issues: use search_datadog_spans with service:<name> and sort by duration.
  • For frontend issues: prefer search_datadog_rum_events for gram.
  • For incidents: check search_datadog_incidents first before deep-diving into logs.
