At a glance

Updates the obs-multi-rtmp plugin repo to the latest upstream plugin template and OBS Studio version, including dependency metadata, then rebuilds it with CMake.

  • Works in 2 steps: Always use my README.md → I have changed the github action…
  • Bringing the plugin up to the newest OBS Studio release
  • SKILL.md covers Update the plugin template, Update OBS version, Update the OBS deps and Try build this project, plus 1 more section
  • Calls cmake; reaches github.com

What it does

The skill walks through three upgrades for an OBS multi-site streaming plugin. First, pull the latest commits from the official obs-plugintemplate repository and merge them into master, keeping the repo's own README and its commented-out parts of the GitHub Actions workflows and the .sh and .ps1 build scripts. Second, find the newest OBS Studio release tag and update the dependency metadata under CMakePresets.json with its version and hash. Third, read the OBS source package's CMakePresets.json and update buildspec.json entries such as Qt and obs-deps.

It then builds with CMake, using the windows-x64 preset on Windows. If the build still uses the old OBS source, the guide says to configure fresh with cmake --preset windows-x64 --fresh and then build with the RelWithDebInfo configuration, inspect the .deps cache, and remove stale OBS entries there if needed. It also warns to use cmd or bash instead of PowerShell for git and curl commands, which may fail there.

When your agent uses it

  • Bringing the plugin up to the newest OBS Studio release
  • Merging upstream obs-plugintemplate changes while keeping local workflow edits
  • Fixing a build that keeps using an old OBS dependency cache

Example prompts

  • “Upgrade obs-multi-rtmp to the latest OBS version and update buildspec.json.”
  • “Merge the latest obs-plugintemplate commits into master and resolve the conflicts as described.”
  • “The build still picks up old OBS deps, so do a fresh configure.”

Requirements

  • Git, curl and CMake
  • Network access to the obsproject repositories on GitHub

Workflow steps

2 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Always use my README.md
  2. I have changed the github action workflow files, so as the build scripts (.sh and .ps1 files). For those parts that I commented and the…

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 8100687. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • cmake

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:

    • github.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

OBS Plugin Dependency Upgrade loads about 609 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 20 tokens; SKILL.md has 303 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~20
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~609

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Follow the upstream plugin template and OBS version for this plugin.

IMPORTANT

Use cmd or bash instead of powershell when run git or curl commands. Run in powershell may failed.

Following the steps to upgrade

Update the plugin template

The official git repository of plugin template is https://github.com/obsproject/obs-plugintemplate.git. My repository merges its commits. You can pull its latest commits and merge them into master. Follow these instructions when resolving merge conflicts:

  1. Always use my README.md
  2. I have changed the github action workflow files, so as the build scripts (.sh and .ps1 files). For those parts that I commented and the upstream has changed, uncomment them and merge the upstream changes, then comment them again. For those parts that I commented and the upstream has not changed, just keep them commented.

Commit the merge after resolving the conflicts.

Update OBS version

  1. The official OBS repository is https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio.git, search for tags to find the latest release version.
  2. The release page is like https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/releases/tag/32.1.0. Replace 32.1.0 with the latest version you found. Update dependency metadata under CMakePresets.json (vendor.obsproject.com/obs-studio.dependencies) with the new version and hash.
  3. Download the zip format of the source code package.

Update the OBS deps

Extract the downloaded OBS source package and read CMakePresets.json in repo root.

Use vendor.obsproject.com/obs-studio.dependencies as source of truth.

Update this repository's buildspec.json entries (Qt, obs-deps, and related hashes).

Try build this project

This project is build with CMake. Use the windows-x64 preset when run in Windows.

Troubleshooting (important)

If OBS version/deps in buildspec.json were updated but build still uses old OBS source:

  1. Do fresh configure before build (plain build may reuse old cache and skip dependency setup).
  2. Prefer:
    • cmake --preset windows-x64 --fresh
    • cmake --build --preset windows-x64 --config RelWithDebInfo
  3. Check .deps/ cache:
    • .deps/.dependency_obs-studio_x64.sha256
    • .deps/obs-studio-<version>/
    • .deps/<version>.zip
  4. If still stuck on old OBS version, remove old OBS entries in .deps/ and rerun fresh configure.
