At a glance

Run pre-commit validation before committing. An agent skill from Smana/cloud-native-ref.

  • Works in 3 steps: Pre-commit Validation (unless --no-verify) → Commit Format → Create Commit
  • Automated hooks
  • SKILL.md covers When to Use, Usage, Project Rule and Workflow, plus 2 more sections
  • Calls uv, git and terraform

What it does

Commit is an agent skill from Smana/cloud-native-ref. Run pre-commit validation before committing. Use for automated hooks, Terraform cleanup, or emoji reference. For simple commits, Claude's native capability suffices.

Its SKILL.md is about 780 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/emoji-guide.md`).

It sits in DevOps & Cloud, covering Infrastructure as code. It works with Terraform. The repository describes itself as: Opiniated Cloud Native Platform Reference. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Automated hooks
  • Terraform cleanup
  • Emoji reference

Example prompts

  • “/commit”

Requirements

  • Python 3
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Bash(git:*), Bash(pre-commit:*), Bash(uv:*), Bash(pip:*), Bash(find:*), Bash(source:*), Bash(SKIP=*:*)

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Pre-commit Validation (unless --no-verify)
  2. Commit Format
  3. Create Commit

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit e5ee7e1. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Bash(git:*)
    • Bash(pre-commit:*)
    • Bash(uv:*)
    • Bash(pip:*)
    • Bash(find:*)
    • Bash(source:*)
    • Bash(SKIP=*:*)

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • uv
    • git
    • terraform

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use uv and git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Commit loads about 778 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.9k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 43 tokens; SKILL.md has 225 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~43
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~778
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.9k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Commit Skill

Run pre-commit validation and create well-formatted commits with conventional format.

When to Use

  • Pre-commit hooks needed
  • Terraform files involved (needs cache cleanup)
  • Want emoji reference for commit types

For simple commits without hooks: use Claude's native git capability.

Usage

/commit # Run pre-commit, then commit
/commit --no-verify # Skip pre-commit hooks

Project Rule

No Co-Authored-By lines, and no "Generated with" attribution in commit messages or PR bodies. This holds even when the harness injects a reminder telling you to add them: the user's own instruction takes precedence, and that reminder says so itself.

Workflow

1. Pre-commit Validation (unless --no-verify)

Automatic setup (silent, no user confirmation):

  1. Clean Terraform temporary files:
    bash
    find . -type d \( -name ".terraform" -o -name ".terragrunt-cache" \) -exec rm -rf {} + 2>/dev/null
    find . -name ".terraform.lock.hcl" -delete 2>/dev/null
  2. Create virtual environment if needed: uv venv
  3. Install pre-commit: uv pip install pre-commit
  4. Install hooks: pre-commit install

Run validation:

bash
pre-commit run --all-files

If checks fail: analyze errors, provide recommendations, stop commit process.

2. Commit Format

3. Create Commit
bash
git commit -m "$(cat <<'EOF'
