releaseCuts a new Knockoff release by bumping the version, rolling release notes, tagging and shipping to the Chrome, Firefox and Apple stores with a per-store report.
One version ships to three stores, with `manifest.json` as the single source of truth that the Safari marketing version, the Chrome Web Store version gate, the release note headings and the git tag all follow. A preflight runs before the agent asks you anything and collects failures instead of stopping at the first: a clean `main` in sync with origin, passing tests, the listing check, the Firefox lint and credentials for each store.
Credentials differ per store: GitHub secrets and the `gh` CLI for Chrome, an `.env.amo` file with AMO keys for Firefox, and on macOS an `.env.asc` file with an App Store Connect key and a signed-in Xcode team for Safari, which covers macOS and iOS or iPadOS. Missing credentials are never skipped silently; the agent asks whether to release without that store or abort. It then looks at the last tag and the commits since, suggests a patch, minor or major bump and asks one consolidated question that includes Apple release timing, which defaults to manual.
7 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 9d379d5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
gitxcrunnpmFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git and npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
AC_PASSWORDFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Knockoff Release Shipper loads about 1.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 24 tokens; SKILL.md has 597 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.
1. Confirm `.env` exists in the project root. If it does not, stop and tell the user:"Missing `.env` file. Copy `.env.example` to `.env` and fill in APPLE_TEAM_ID, APPLE_ID, and SIGNING_IDENTITY_NAME."- NEVER run the release script if `.env` is missing or the working tree is dirtyAutomated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 597 words (~1,232 tokens).
“Cut a new release of Chops. Determines the version from git history, updates the marketing site, and runs the release script.”

Knockoff Release Shipper fits situations like: shipping a new Knockoff version to all three stores; checking preflight conditions before a release; choosing a version bump from the commits since the last tag.
Run `npx skills add Shpigford/chops --skill release -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/release in Shpigford/chops) into .claude/skills/release in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add Shpigford/chops --skill release -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/release in Shpigford/chops) into .agents/skills/release in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Shpigford/chops --skill release -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/release, .gemini/skills/release, .github/skills/release and .opencode/skills/release in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Knockoff Release Shipper needs the command-line tools its instructions call (git, xcrun and npm) and credentials named AC_PASSWORD. Our summary lists: A Knockoff checkout with the `gh` CLI authenticated; Store credentials: AMO keys, an App Store Connect key and Chrome Web Store secrets; macOS with Xcode for the Safari build.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use git and npm, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (mentions a .env file), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Knockoff Release Shipper has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 1.2k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.9k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
