What it does

Recall Ext is an agent skill from samzong/Recall. Develop and verify Recall's extension host, official extensions, manifests, and release wiring. Use for extension implementation or maintenance in this repository.

Its SKILL.md is about 570 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).

It works with Google Gemini and Rust. The repository describes itself as: Switch agents. Keep the history. Local-first search across your AI coding sessions. The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/recall-ext”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a1f0ba5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • cargo
    • make

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Recall Ext loads about 572 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 44 tokens; SKILL.md has 242 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~44
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~572

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Recall Ext

Read extensions/AGENTS.md and docs/extensions.md for the extension boundary, CLI protocol, and managed-install contract. Compare implementation with the contract; resolve disagreements before changing behavior.

Develop

  • Use extensions/recall-probe/ for the minimal package layout. Add the new recall-<name> binary to workspace members and keep its version independent of core.
  • Implement --recall-extension-manifest with name, package version, protocol, and min_recall. Choose compatibility values from the CLI features actually consumed; do not copy the probe's legacy values or commands field into a new extension.
  • Pass an explicit --project on scoped Recall queries and syncs; use all only for global work. Omitted scope follows the caller's working directory.
  • recall session show --format json returns metadata by default. Request --messages or --include metadata, messages when reading transcripts.
  • For host changes, trace src/extension.rs against the managed-install contract: official catalog, checksum and manifest validation, managed-only dispatch and removal. Do not add PATH discovery or a third-party registry.

Verify

Run the relevant package checks and exercise its CLI protocol:

bash
cargo build -p recall-<name>
cargo test -p recall-<name>
cargo run -p recall-<name> -- --recall-extension-manifest

For host changes, run cargo test --lib extension::tests; for catalog changes, check cargo run -- ext list --available. Run root make check before ship.

Release

Bump the package version only when a release is requested. Follow .github/workflows/extension-release.yml for version/tag validation, target packaging, publication, and catalog generation. Extension tags are recall-<name>-v<version>; a core tag does not release an extension.

Verify the affected target archives, manifests, and SHA-256 checksums using that workflow. Never hand-edit website/public/extensions/catalog.json or couple extension and core releases unless protocol compatibility requires it.
