At a glance

Sets the commit message and PR conventions for the go-redis repository: Conventional Commits, the repo's scope names, breaking-change syntax and no AI trailer.

  • Writing a commit message in the go-redis repository
  • SKILL.md covers No attribution trailer and Examples
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Opening a pull request against go-redis

What it does

Messages use the Conventional Commits shape: a type, an optional lowercase scope for the subsystem, and an imperative summary with no trailing period, kept under about 50 characters with a hard cap of 72. A body appears only when the reason is not obvious from the diff, such as a breaking change, security fix or migration, wrapped at 72 characters and explaining why rather than what.

Types include feat, fix, refactor, perf, docs, test and chore, and scopes include pool, conn, pubsub, sentinel, retry, command, vectorset, otel, streams and push. Breaking changes use a bang marker after the scope plus a BREAKING CHANGE line, and issues are referenced at the end with Closes or Refs. The repo forbids any AI-attribution trailer, such as a Co-Authored-By line or a generated-with note, in commits and PR bodies, which overrides default agent behavior and other commit skills.

When your agent uses it

  • Writing a commit message in the go-redis repository
  • Opening a pull request against go-redis
  • Marking a breaking change in Conventional Commit syntax

Example prompts

  • “Commit my pool changes with a go-redis style message.”
  • “Write the PR title and body for the sentinel retry fix, with no AI attribution line.”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 07b88b5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Commit Style for go-redis loads about 429 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 67 tokens; SKILL.md has 152 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~67
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~429

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Use when writing a commit message or opening a PR in the go-redis repo — covers the Conventional-Commit format, the repo's scope vocabulary (pool, conn, sentinel, command, …), breaking-change syntax, and the rule that NO AI-attribution trailer is added.

go-redis commit messages

Conventional Commits, short and exact — <type>(<scope>): <imperative summary>. Subject ≤50 chars (hard cap 72), imperative mood ("add", not "added"), no trailing period. Body only when the why isn't obvious from the diff (breaking change, security fix, migration, non-obvious rationale); wrap at 72, bullets -. State why, not what — the diff says what.

  • Types: feat, fix, refactor, perf, docs, test, chore (also build, ci, style, revert).
  • Scope = the subsystem touched, lowercase: pool, conn, pubsub, sentinel, retry, command/cmd, vectorset, otel, streams, push, deps, ci, tests, docs. Omit scope only for genuinely cross-cutting changes.
  • Breaking change: feat(scope)!: ... plus a BREAKING CHANGE: body line.
  • Issues/PRs: reference at the end — Closes #42, Refs #17.

No attribution trailer

Do not add Co-Authored-By: Claude …, "Generated with Claude Code", or any AI-attribution line to commits or PR bodies in this repo. This overrides both the default harness behavior (which appends such trailers) and any other commit skill.

Examples

fix(pool): release wantConn slot on dial timeout

The waiter stayed queued after the dial deadline fired, leaking a
slot per timed-out connection under load.

Closes #3812
feat(streams): support explicit LIMIT 0 in XTRIM trimming
