What it does

AWS Native Runtime Investigation is an agent skill from pulumi/pulumi-aws-native, published by the product's own GitHub organization. Use after triage or repository evidence establishes that an issue involves Pulumi AWS Native runtime behavior across the Pulumi provider protocol, generated CloudFormation metadata, and AWS Cloud Control API. Do not use for initial issue triage, routine generated SDK churn, or isolated schema/codegen edits with no runtime semantics.

Its SKILL.md is about 750 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).

It sits in DevOps & Cloud, covering Infrastructure as code, Project scaffolding and Issue triage. It works with Amazon Web Services, Pulumi and AWS CloudFormation. The repository describes itself as: AWS Native Provider for Pulumi. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Routine generated SDK churn
  • Isolated schema/codegen edits with no runtime semantics

Example prompts

  • “/aws-native-runtime-investigation”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 46d819b. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

AWS Native Runtime Investigation loads about 753 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 92 tokens; SKILL.md has 355 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~92
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~753

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

AWS Native Runtime Investigation

Use this skill to find the relevant AWS Native lifecycle boundary and keep the change small. It is a routing aid, not a required planning framework or an edge-case checklist.

Start With The Repository Guide

Read docs/provider-runtime.md, following only the Pulumi engine and CloudControl references relevant to the reported behavior. Read ARCHITECTURE.md for repository boundaries and AGENTS.md for generated-file and command rules.

Trace the motivating issue, repro, or failing test through the current code. Do not ask the user to explain facts that can be read from the repository.

Keep The Change Narrow

  • Identify the concrete resource and lifecycle transition that is wrong.
  • Name the boundary that owns it: Pulumi engine behavior, AWS Native translation/runtime behavior, CloudFormation schema metadata, or CloudControl behavior.
  • Propose the smallest end-to-end change that fixes the reported path.
  • Treat adjacent metadata and lifecycle cases as context to disposition, not requirements to implement.
  • Preserve existing behavior when stronger semantics cannot be established safely.
  • Before adding machinery for an uncommon case, check whether it occurs in the current schemas, tests, or reported user behavior. Report its incidence, fallback, and follow-up option when support is costly.
  • Broaden across Read, Diff, or patch generation only when those boundaries must agree for the motivating behavior to be correct.
  • Prefer a focused test that proves the user-visible regression. Add lower-level tests when they provide distinct proof or useful failure localization rather than duplicating the lifecycle test.

Do not create a design document merely because this skill was loaded. Use the conversation for narrow changes. Create a durable plan only when the user asks for one or when unresolved cross-boundary decisions need to survive a handoff.

Stop And Ask

Return to the maintainer with concrete options when:

  • Pulumi, AWS Native, and CloudControl evidence point to different owners;
  • two plausible semantics have different user-visible results;
  • the safe fallback is unclear;
  • the implementation is becoming substantially broader than the reported problem; or
  • a rare case requires disproportionate complexity and cannot be deferred.

Follow AGENTS.md for validation and generated artifacts. Do not hand-edit generated SDKs, generated schema or metadata, CI workflows, toolchain files, or upstream submodule content.
