hmt-convertConvert between hydraulic model formats. An agent skill from psu-efd/pyHMT2D.
Hmt Convert is an agent skill from psu-efd/pyHMT2D. Convert between hydraulic model formats. Supports HEC-RAS 2D to SRH-2D mesh conversion, and SRH-2D results or mesh to VTK. These tools are stateless — no open project is required. Use this when the user wants to convert formats, e.g. "convert RAS to SRH", "export SRH-2D to VTK", or "convert mesh to VTK".
Its SKILL.md is about 610 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
The repository describes itself as: Python Hydraulic Modeling Tools - 2D. The licence is MIT.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 57645ff. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Hmt Convert loads about 605 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 79 tokens; SKILL.md has 205 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from psu-efd/pyHMT2D at commit 57645ff, republished under its MIT licence (© psu-efd). 205 words, ~605 tokens.

HEC-RAS 2D mesh + Manning's n → SRH-2D (.srhgeom, .srhmat) | ras_to_srh |
| SRH-2D HDF results → VTK | srh_to_vtk |
| SRH-2D mesh only → VTK | srh_to_vtk with mesh_only: true |
Determine the conversion type from the user's request or arguments. If unclear, ask:
Collect required file paths. If the user did not provide them, scan the current directory for relevant files:
hmt-cli list_model_files --args '{"directory": "."}'For ras_to_srh: need .hdf result file, terrain .tif, and desired output case name.
For srh_to_vtk: need .srhhydro file and either the HDF result file or output VTK filename.
Run the conversion.
HEC-RAS → SRH-2D:
hmt-cli ras_to_srh --args '{"ras_hdf_file": "<path>", "terrain_tif_file": "<path>", "srh_case_name": "<name>"}'Report the generated .srhgeom and .srhmat files.
Remind the user that a .srhhydro boundary-condition file must be created separately.
SRH-2D results → VTK (last time step):
hmt-cli srh_to_vtk --args '{"srhhydro_file": "<path>", "output_file": "<result.h5>"}'SRH-2D results → VTK (all time steps):
hmt-cli srh_to_vtk --args '{"srhhydro_file": "<path>", "output_file": "<result.h5>", "all_timesteps": true}'SRH-2D mesh only → VTK:

With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add psu-efd/pyHMT2D --skill hmt-convert -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/hmt-convert, .gemini/skills/hmt-convert, .github/skills/hmt-convert and .opencode/skills/hmt-convert in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Hmt Convert is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Hmt Convert is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 605 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
