What it does

Git Commit is an agent skill from prapaa-ai/agav. Generate a commit message from staged changes

Its SKILL.md is about 360 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Development, covering Commit messages. It works with Git. The repository describes itself as: Terminal-native AI coding assistant for real repositories. Inspect code, edit files, run tests, and verify changes from the CLI. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Commit messages

Example prompts

  • “/git-commit”

Requirements

  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): run_command, read_file

Workflow steps

7 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Run git diff --cached to retrieve the staged changes. If nothing is staged, inform the user and stop.
  2. Run git diff --cached --stat to get a summary of files changed, insertions, and deletions.
  3. Analyze the changes to determine
  4. If the changes are significant or span multiple concerns, write a body paragraph explaining
  5. Format the message as
  6. Check the project's recent git log --oneline -10 to match existing commit style conventions.
  7. Present the generated message to the user for approval before committing.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 9e9582a. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • run_command
    • read_file

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Git Commit loads about 358 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 14 tokens; SKILL.md has 165 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~14
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~358

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Git Commit

Generate a well-structured conventional commit message from the currently staged changes.

Instructions

  1. Run git diff --cached to retrieve the staged changes. If nothing is staged, inform the user and stop.
  2. Run git diff --cached --stat to get a summary of files changed, insertions, and deletions.
  3. Analyze the changes to determine:
    • Type: feat (new feature), fix (bug fix), refactor (restructuring), docs (documentation), chore (maintenance), test (adding/updating tests), style (formatting), perf (performance), ci (CI config).
    • Scope: The module, component, or area affected (optional, use when it adds clarity).
    • Subject: A concise imperative description of what changed (max 72 characters).
  4. If the changes are significant or span multiple concerns, write a body paragraph explaining:
    • Why the change was made
    • Any notable decisions or trade-offs
    • Breaking changes (prefix with BREAKING CHANGE:)
  5. Format the message as:
    type(scope): subject

Optional body explaining why, not what.
  6. Check the project's recent git log --oneline -10 to match existing commit style conventions.
  7. Present the generated message to the user for approval before committing.
