At a glance

Sets up and maintains a short, agent-written wiki under /wiki in the repo root, loaded through an index so agents read pages on demand instead of crowding context.

  • Works in 3 steps: SKILL.md — Core skill: structure,… → getting-started.md — Bootstrapping:… → maintenance.md — Deep verification:…
  • Bootstrapping a repo wiki that the agent maintains
  • SKILL.md covers Install, Structure, Index Format and Terseness, plus 7 more sections
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

A persistent knowledge base of the repository's current state, kept as plain Markdown in /wiki/ and browsable on GitHub. Installing it means creating /wiki/ with an index.md, adding @wiki/index.md to the repo's CLAUDE.md so that only the index loads into context, and installing the skill or copying skills/repo-wiki/ into the repo. Agents then read or grep individual pages on demand, starting with the index.

Pages have to be terse, specific, scannable and free of filler, reading like a senior engineer's notes with code paths and table names, and the index holds one line per page. Agents should consult the wiki before planning, before big changes and when they hit something unexpected, and update it after significant work. Two companion files cover getting started, including migrating from older knowledge systems and oversized CLAUDE.md files, and a deeper verification pass that uses a haiku subagent for periodic checks.

When your agent uses it

  • Bootstrapping a repo wiki that the agent maintains
  • Reading existing wiki pages before planning an architectural change
  • Updating outdated documentation after a significant task
  • Running a periodic check that wiki pages still match the code

Example prompts

  • “Set up a /wiki directory with an index for this repo and hook it into CLAUDE.md.”
  • “Check the wiki pages about authentication against the current code and fix anything stale.”
  • “Add what we learned about the billing flow to the wiki.”

Requirements

  • A CLAUDE.md file that imports wiki/index.md

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. SKILL.md — Core skill: structure, philosophy, when to read/write/fix
  2. getting-started.md — Bootstrapping: fresh setup or migrating from existing knowledge systems (MIM, memory files, fat CLAUDE.md)
  3. maintenance.md — Deep verification: periodic checks, haiku subagent pattern

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit b9bc306. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are markdown).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Repo Wiki loads about 1.2k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 99 tokens; SKILL.md has 591 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~99
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.2k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 591 words (~1,191 tokens).

“A persistent, agent-maintained knowledge base that lives at /wiki/ in the repo root. Browsable on GitHub. All markdown.”
