What it does

Commit is an agent skill from parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3. Create git commits with user approval and no Claude attribution

Its SKILL.md is about 490 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 1 other file (for example `SKILL.v6.md`).

It sits in Development, covering Commit messages. It works with Git. The repository describes itself as: Context management for Claude Code. Hooks maintain state via ledgers and handoffs. MCP execution without context pollution. Agent orchestration with isolated context windows. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Commit messages

Example prompts

  • “/commit”

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Think about what changed
  2. Plan your commit(s)
  3. Present your plan to the user
  4. Execute upon confirmation
  5. Generate reasoning (after each commit)

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit d07ff4b. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git
    • bash

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Commit loads about 493 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 18 tokens; SKILL.md has 256 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~18
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~493

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Commit Changes

You are tasked with creating git commits for the changes made during this session.

Process:

  1. Think about what changed:

    • Review the conversation history and understand what was accomplished
    • Run git status to see current changes
    • Run git diff to understand the modifications
    • Consider whether changes should be one commit or multiple logical commits
  2. Plan your commit(s):

    • Identify which files belong together
    • Draft clear, descriptive commit messages
    • Use imperative mood in commit messages
    • Focus on why the changes were made, not just what
  3. Present your plan to the user:

    • List the files you plan to add for each commit
    • Show the commit message(s) you'll use
    • Ask: "I plan to create [N] commit(s) with these changes. Shall I proceed?"
  4. Execute upon confirmation:

    • Use git add with specific files (never use -A or .)
    • Create commits with your planned messages
    • Show the result with git log --oneline -n [number]
  5. Generate reasoning (after each commit):

    • Run: bash "$CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR/.claude/scripts/generate-reasoning.sh" <commit-hash> "<commit-message>"
    • This captures what was tried during development (build failures, fixes)
    • The reasoning file helps future sessions understand past decisions
    • Stored in .git/claude/commits/<hash>/reasoning.md

Important:

  • NEVER add co-author information or Claude attribution
  • Commits should be authored solely by the user
  • Do not include any "Generated with Claude" messages
  • Do not add "Co-Authored-By" lines
  • Write commit messages as if the user wrote them

Remember:

  • You have the full context of what was done in this session
  • Group related changes together
  • Keep commits focused and atomic when possible
  • The user trusts your judgment - they asked you to commit

Questions about Commit

What does Commit do?

Create git commits with user approval and no Claude attribution. Commit is an agent skill from parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3.

When should I use Commit?

Commit fits situations like: tasks that involve Commit messages.

How do I install Commit in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill commit -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/commit in parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3) into .claude/skills/commit in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Commit in Codex?

Run `npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill commit -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/commit in parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3) into .agents/skills/commit in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Commit in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill commit -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/commit, .gemini/skills/commit, .github/skills/commit and .opencode/skills/commit in your project.

What does Commit need to run?

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Commit needs the command-line tools its instructions call (git and bash).

Does Commit access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Commit safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Commit use?

Commit is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Commit use?

About 493 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Commit?

Skills that share tags, products or a category with Commit: React Router Release Notes Prep (remix-run/react-router, 57k stars), ToolJet Multi-Repo Commit (ToolJet/ToolJet, 41k stars), Git Workflow and Versioning (addyosmani/agent-skills, 103k stars) and React Router Pull Request Creator (remix-run/react-router, 57k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.

Who maintains Commit?

parcadei (a GitHub user) maintains it in parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3, which has 3,940 GitHub stars. The repository holds 141 skills in this directory. The repository was last updated on January 26, 2026.
