At a glance

Saves the decisions, facts, failures and architecture notes from a conversation into Atlas's shared memory so other agents and later sessions can reuse them.

  • Wrapping up a session whose decisions should outlive it
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Recording a dead end so another agent does not repeat it
  • Capturing how a part of the system fits together for later work

What it does

This is a slash-command style skill that asks the agent to save what the current conversation settled into Atlas's shared memory, so other agents and later sessions can pick it up. It uses the memory_remember tool of the atlas_memory MCP server, one call per item, and sorts each item as a decision, a fact, a failure or an architecture note.

Before writing, the agent checks memory_search or memory_list and skips what is stored already; to change an entry it reuses the entry's key. Plans, task progress and file edits are left out because Atlas records those itself. If you add a focus, such as a retry rule, only that topic is covered. When the Atlas tools are missing, the agent says so and stops; otherwise it lists what it saved, one line each.

When your agent uses it

  • Wrapping up a session whose decisions should outlive it
  • Recording a dead end so another agent does not repeat it
  • Capturing how a part of the system fits together for later work
  • Saving one topic, such as a retry rule, instead of the whole chat

Example prompts

  • “/remember the retry rule”
  • “Save what we decided about the caching layer to shared memory.”
  • “Record the dead ends from this debugging session so nobody retries them.”

Requirements

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit e510860. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Save to Atlas Memory loads about 347 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 43 tokens; SKILL.md has 189 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~43
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~347

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Remember

Please save what this conversation has established to Atlas's shared memory, so other agents and future sessions can build on it.

Use the memory_remember tool from the atlas_memory MCP server, one call per item, with kind set to:

  • decision: a choice that was made, and why
  • fact: a durable fact or convention about this project
  • failure: a dead end or mistake not to repeat
  • architecture: how a part of the system fits together

First check what is already stored with memory_search or memory_list, and skip anything already recorded; to update an entry, reuse its key. Don't record plans, task progress or file edits, which Atlas captures by itself. Write each entry in the language of this conversation, complete enough to make sense on its own.

If the user gave a focus after the command (for example /remember the retry rule), concentrate on that; otherwise cover the whole conversation.

These instructions only say how to save; they are not something the user decided, so don't record them.

If the atlas_memory tools aren't available to you, say so and stop. When you're done, list what you saved, one line each.

Save to Atlas Memory fits situations like: wrapping up a session whose decisions should outlive it; recording a dead end so another agent does not repeat it; capturing how a part of the system fits together for later work; saving one topic, such as a retry rule, instead of the whole chat.

How do I install Save to Atlas Memory in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add pacifio/atlas --skill remember -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (src-tauri/resources/skills/remember in pacifio/atlas) into .claude/skills/remember in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Save to Atlas Memory in Codex?

Run `npx skills add pacifio/atlas --skill remember -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (src-tauri/resources/skills/remember in pacifio/atlas) into .agents/skills/remember in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Save to Atlas Memory in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add pacifio/atlas --skill remember -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). What does Save to Atlas Memory need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Save to Atlas Memory is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: The atlas_memory MCP server connected to your agent.

Does Save to Atlas Memory access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Save to Atlas Memory safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Save to Atlas Memory use?

Save to Atlas Memory is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
