What it does

Javascript Conventions is an agent skill from Orange-OpenSource/Orange-Boosted-Bootstrap. JavaScript coding conventions for OUDS Web. Use this skill when writing, editing, or reviewing any JS file in js/src/ or js/tests/. Covers no-semicolons style, no trailing commas, template literals, .js import extensions, no console. in production, strict mode, and the BaseComponent pattern. All JS is shared across brands — never put JS in packages/<brand/.

Its SKILL.md is about 750 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering CSS and styling. It works with JavaScript. The repository describes itself as: OUDS Web is an accessible, ergonomic and Orange branded framework based on Orange Unified Design System and Bootstrap. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Reviewing any JS file in js/src/
  • Tasks that involve CSS and styling

Example prompts

  • “/javascript-conventions”

Requirements

  • A credential in DATA_KEY
  • A credential in EVENT_KEY

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 27508ab. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are javascript).

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:

    • EVENT_KEY
    • DATA_KEY

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Javascript Conventions loads about 751 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 96 tokens; SKILL.md has 165 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~96
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~751

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Covers no-semicolons style, no trailing commas, template literals, .js import extensions, no console.* in production, strict mode, and the BaseComponent pattern. All JS is shared across brands — never put JS in packages/<brand>/.

JavaScript Conventions

Why these rules exist

OUDS Web uses a strict ESLint config (xo + unicorn) enforced in CI. All 15 JS components share the same conventions. JavaScript is 100% shared across brands — only CSS differs.

Style rules (ESLint-enforced)

RuleExample
No semicolonsconst x = 1 (not const x = 1;)
No trailing commas{ a: 1, b: 2 } (not { a: 1, b: 2, })
Template literals`Hello, ${name}` (not "Hello, " + name)
.js extension on importsimport Foo from './foo.js'
No console.* in js/src/Use event dispatching or throw
Strict mode'use strict' at top of every module
2-space indentConsistent with SCSS/HTML

Component structure (BaseComponent pattern)

javascript
'use strict'

import BaseComponent from './base-component.js'
import EventHandler from './dom/event-handler.js'
import { defineJQueryPlugin } from './util/index.js'

const NAME = 'myComponent'
const DATA_KEY = `bs.${NAME}`
const EVENT_KEY = `.${DATA_KEY}`

class MyComponent extends BaseComponent {
  static get NAME() { return NAME }
  static get Default() { return {} }
  static get DefaultType() { return {} }

  // Public methods
  show() {
    const event = EventHandler.trigger(this._element, `show${EVENT_KEY}`)
    if (event.defaultPrevented) return
    this._element.classList.add('show')
    EventHandler.trigger(this._element, `shown${EVENT_KEY}`)
  }

  // Private methods prefixed with _
  _handleClick(event) { /* ... */ }

  static jQueryInterface(config) {
    return this.each(function () {
      const data = MyComponent.getOrCreateInstance(this)
      if (typeof config === 'string') {
        if (typeof data[config] === 'undefined') {
          throw new TypeError(`No method named "${config}"`)
        }
        data[config]()
      }
    })
  }
}

defineJQueryPlugin(MyComponent)
export default MyComponent

Key patterns

  • Static NAME getter — required for instance management
  • data-bs-* attributes — all config via HTML attributes, never inline handlers
  • Event constants — EVENT_SHOW, EVENT_SHOWN etc. with EVENT_KEY suffix
  • jQuery interface — always provide for backward compatibility
  • Register in entries — add to js/index.esm.js and js/index.umd.js
