release-datasetsRelease one or more datasets by adding them to a topical collection, bumping coverage.start, and verifying.
Release Datasets is an agent skill from opensanctions/opensanctions. Release one or more datasets by adding them to a topical collection, bumping coverage.start, and verifying. Use when the user wants to release/publish specific crawled datasets into the OpenSanctions product.
Its SKILL.md is about 570 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Data & Analytics. The repository describes itself as: An open database of international sanctions data, persons of interest and politically exposed persons. The licence is MIT.
2 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ce59ef9. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

Release Datasets loads about 566 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 56 tokens; SKILL.md has 244 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

The full release process — how collections work, choosing a collection, the
edit steps, and verification — is documented in
zavod/docs/best_practices/release.md.
Read that doc and follow it. This skill only covers how to drive it.
Only release the datasets the user explicitly lists. Never release every unreleased dataset in the pipeline — most are work in progress or test scratch and are unreleased on purpose. If the user gave no list, ask which datasets they want to release before doing anything.
Determine the target collection for each dataset.
.yml tags:
(e.g. list.pep), summary/description, and the entities it emits, then
match against the collection table in release.md. Confirm the suggestion
with the user before editing; don't guess silently.release.md: add the dataset to the collection's
children: (alphabetically sorted), bump coverage.start to today, and verify
with python contrib/check_hierarchy.py datasets.coverage.start (some files quote the date, some don't).python -c "import yaml; c=yaml.safe_load(open('datasets/_collections/<collection>.yml'))['children']; assert c==sorted(c) and len(c)==len(set(c)); print('ok', len(c))"Group the collection edit and the coverage bumps together. Use the house
[dataset_name] commit-title prefix (one dataset → [xx_foo] Release into peps;
several → describe the batch). Do not push during an in-flight session without
explicit confirmation.

Release Datasets fits situations like: the user wants to release/publish specific crawled datasets into the OpenSanctions product.
Run `npx skills add opensanctions/opensanctions --skill release-datasets -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/release-datasets in opensanctions/opensanctions) into .claude/skills/release-datasets in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add opensanctions/opensanctions --skill release-datasets -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/release-datasets in opensanctions/opensanctions) into .agents/skills/release-datasets in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add opensanctions/opensanctions --skill release-datasets -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/release-datasets, .gemini/skills/release-datasets, .github/skills/release-datasets and .opencode/skills/release-datasets in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Release Datasets needs the command-line tools its instructions call (python). Our summary lists: Python 3.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Release Datasets is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 566 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 2.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
