  • Works in 3 steps: Check browser for visual rendering → Test responsive breakpoints → Verify dark mode if project uses it

What it does

Tailwindcss Development is an agent skill from OpenLitterMap/openlittermap-web. Styles applications using Tailwind CSS v3 utilities. Activates when adding styles, restyling components, working with gradients, spacing, layout, flex, grid, responsive design, dark mode, colors, typography, or borders; or when the user mentions CSS, styling, classes, Tailwind, restyle, hero section, cards, buttons, or any visual/UI changes.

Its SKILL.md is about 710 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering CSS and styling, Theming and dark mode and Responsive design. It works with Tailwind CSS. The repository describes itself as: https://opengeospatialdata.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/s40965-018-0050-y. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Any visual/UI changes
  • Tasks that involve CSS and styling
  • Tasks that involve Theming and dark mode

Example prompts

  • “Use the tailwindcss-development skill to style applications using Tailwind CSS v3 utilities. An agent skill from OpenLitterMap/openlittermap-web”
  • “/tailwindcss-development”

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Check browser for visual rendering
  2. Test responsive breakpoints
  3. Verify dark mode if project uses it

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ac688aa. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are html and css).

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Tailwindcss Development loads about 713 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 92 tokens; SKILL.md has 238 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~92
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~713

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Tailwind CSS Development

When to Apply

Activate this skill when:

  • Adding styles to components or pages
  • Working with responsive design
  • Implementing dark mode
  • Extracting repeated patterns into components
  • Debugging spacing or layout issues

Documentation

Use search-docs for detailed Tailwind CSS v3 patterns and documentation.

Basic Usage

  • Use Tailwind CSS classes to style HTML. Check and follow existing Tailwind conventions in the project before introducing new patterns.
  • Offer to extract repeated patterns into components that match the project's conventions (e.g., Blade, JSX, Vue).
  • Consider class placement, order, priority, and defaults. Remove redundant classes, add classes to parent or child elements carefully to reduce repetition, and group elements logically.

Tailwind CSS v3 Specifics

  • Always use Tailwind CSS v3 and verify you're using only classes it supports.
  • Configuration is done in the tailwind.config.js file.
  • Import using @tailwind directives:
<!-- v3 Import Syntax -->
css
@tailwind base;
@tailwind components;
@tailwind utilities;

Spacing

When listing items, use gap utilities for spacing; don't use margins.

<!-- Gap Utilities -->
html
<div class="flex gap-8">
    <div>Item 1</div>
    <div>Item 2</div>
</div>

Dark Mode

If existing pages and components support dark mode, new pages and components must support it the same way, typically using the dark: variant:

<!-- Dark Mode -->
html
<div class="bg-white dark:bg-gray-900 text-gray-900 dark:text-white">
    Content adapts to color scheme
</div>

Common Patterns

Flexbox Layout
<!-- Flexbox Layout -->
html
<div class="flex items-center justify-between gap-4">
    <div>Left content</div>
    <div>Right content</div>
</div>
Grid Layout
<!-- Grid Layout -->
html
<div class="grid grid-cols-1 md:grid-cols-2 lg:grid-cols-3 gap-6">
    <div>Card 1</div>
    <div>Card 2</div>
    <div>Card 3</div>
</div>

Verification

  1. Check browser for visual rendering
  2. Test responsive breakpoints
  3. Verify dark mode if project uses it

Common Pitfalls

  • Using margins for spacing between siblings instead of gap utilities
  • Forgetting to add dark mode variants when the project uses dark mode
  • Not checking existing project conventions before adding new utilities
  • Overusing inline styles when Tailwind classes would suffice
