What it does

Physical Chromebook Debugging is an agent skill from nwjs/chromium.src. Build and deploy Chrome to a physical ChromeOS device, monitor logs, and take screenshots over SSH. Use when working with remote Chromebook testing hardware, deploying new builds of Chrome or ChromeOS, reading specific log files via SSH, or taking screenshots of a connected test endpoint.

Its SKILL.md is about 460 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 3 other files (for example `EVAL.yaml` and `TEST.md`).

It sits in Development, covering Debugging. The repository describes itself as: Chromium codebase with NW.js modifications. Based on https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src.git. The licence is BSD-3-Clause.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a9e8946. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • ssh
    • scp

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use ssh and scp, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Physical Chromebook Debugging loads about 464 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 80 tokens; SKILL.md has 123 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~80
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~464

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Physical Chromebook Debugging Skills

This skill outlines how to perform standard tasks on a remote or local ChromeOS debugging device over SSH.

1. Building and Deploying Chrome

To build Chrome and deploy it to a remote ChromeOS device (or VM):

bash
autoninja -C out_strongbad/Release chrome
./third_party/chromite/bin/deploy_chrome --build-dir=out_strongbad/Release --device=localhost:2222 --board=strongbad

[!TIP] Replace out_strongbad/Release, localhost:2222, and strongbad with your actual configuration.

2. Reading Logs on the Device

Chrome logs are located in /var/log/chrome/chrome. View them via standard SSH filtering:

bash
ssh -p 2222 -i third_party/chromite/ssh_keys/testing_rsa root@localhost "grep -a 'SEARCH_TERM' /var/log/chrome/chrome"

3. Taking Screenshots

Capture a screenshot on the device and transfer it to your local machine with scp:

  1. Take screenshot on the device:

    bash
    ssh -p 2222 -i third_party/chromite/ssh_keys/testing_rsa root@localhost "screenshot /tmp/screenshot.png"
  2. Copy to your local machine:

    bash
    scp -P 2222 -i third_party/chromite/ssh_keys/testing_rsa root@localhost:/tmp/screenshot.png /path/to/local/dir/

4. Emulating Input & ChromeVox Control

For simulating key presses or toggling the ChromeVox screen reader on a physical Chromebook, please see the dedicated skill: chromevox-debugging-on-chromebook/SKILL.md
