At a glance

A skill your agent uses when you need to map components across platforms, reference Chrome Design System component data, or generate a component spec.

  • You need to map components across platforms
  • SKILL.md covers Component map, Component specs and Generating a component spec
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Reference Chrome Design System component data

What it does

Chrome Components is an agent skill from nwjs/chromium.src. Use this skill when you need to map components across platforms, reference Chrome Design System component data, or generate a component spec.

Its SKILL.md is about 330 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 34 other files, including reference files and assets (for example `README.md`, `assets/spec-template.md` and `references/component-specs/Badge_Spec.md`).

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering Design systems. It works with Figma. The repository describes itself as: Chromium codebase with NW.js modifications. Based on https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src.git. The licence is BSD-3-Clause.

Example prompts

  • “/chrome-components”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a9e8946. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Chrome Components loads about 325 tokens when it runs, and up to ~87k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 40 tokens; SKILL.md has 141 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~40
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~325
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~87k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Chrome Components

Chrome components are the basic building blocks that make up the Chrome UI.

Component map

The component map (components.md) lists all supported Chrome Design System components, each mapped to equivalent components across all Chrome platforms.

For example, to find what a Figma Checkbox maps to in WebUI, find Checkbox under the Figma Component column and then in that row, see the value under the WebUI column (<cr-checkbox>).

Component specs

Each component has its own spec file that contains detailed specifications about the component.

To find a component spec, find the component in the component map and then follow the link to that component's spec. Alternatively, find the component by its name in the ./references/component-specs/ directory.

Generating a component spec

To generate a component spec, reference generate-component-spec.md. Currently this requires a link to a Figma component as the starting point.

How do I install Chrome Components in Claude Code?

Run `npx skills add nwjs/chromium.src --skill chrome-components -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (agents/projects/chrome-design-system/skills/chrome-components in nwjs/chromium.src) into .claude/skills/chrome-components in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

How do I install Chrome Components in Codex?

Run `npx skills add nwjs/chromium.src --skill chrome-components -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (agents/projects/chrome-design-system/skills/chrome-components in nwjs/chromium.src) into .agents/skills/chrome-components in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Chrome Components in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add nwjs/chromium.src --skill chrome-components -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/chrome-components, .gemini/skills/chrome-components, .github/skills/chrome-components and .opencode/skills/chrome-components in your project.

What does Chrome Components need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Chrome Components is instructions for the agent only.

Does Chrome Components access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Chrome Components safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Chrome Components use?
