build-from-issuePlan and implement work described in a GitHub issue, including verification, documentation, and a PR that closes the issue.
Build From Issue is an agent skill from NVIDIA/OpenShell, published by the product's own GitHub organization. Plan and implement work described in a GitHub issue, including verification, documentation, and a PR that closes the issue.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It works with GitHub. The repository describes itself as: OpenShell is the safe, private runtime for autonomous AI agents. The licence is Apache-2.0.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 834b79a. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
ghFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use gh, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Build From Issue loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 35 tokens; SKILL.md has 630 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from NVIDIA/OpenShell at commit 834b79a, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© NVIDIA). 630 words, ~1,130 tokens.
.claude/skills/build-from-issue/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Use a specific GitHub issue to plan and implement a scoped change. Direct user instructions authorize the phase requested. Planning alone does not authorize implementation. For unattended work, inspect the current state:* label descriptions, maintainer assignments, and issue comments to infer the authorized phase. Proceed only when those records authorize the phase; do not assume every state permits implementation.
gh issue view <id> --json number, title, body, state, labels, comments, assignees and follow Label Discovery in CONTRIBUTING.md to retrieve every page of current state:* label definitions and resolve unclear meanings. Infer whether triage, validation, and human acceptance have happened. Do not hard-code label names or change disposition as part of building.review-security-issue and fix-security-issue instead.Identify the user-visible outcome, affected code, alternatives, tests, and documentation. For configuration, CLI, SDK, or other UX changes, include notional commands, configuration, or API examples so a human can review the proposed interaction. Consider existing extensibility points such as middleware, interceptors, and providers. Prefer an applicable extension when it satisfies the use case; the need to run another service alone does not disqualify it.
Use a single issue comment beginning with > **🏗️ build-plan** when a plan should be recorded on GitHub. On later invocations, read that comment and any newer human feedback before taking action. Respond to unanswered feedback with a comment beginning > **🏗️ build-from-issue-agent**; update the existing plan comment in place when the design changes. Do not repeat a completed plan or open a second PR. Distinguish technical findings from product decisions. If the user requested only a plan, stop after the plan is available for review.
CONTRIBUTING.md.CONTRIBUTING.md. Select format, lint, compile or type checks, and tests for affected components and their dependencies. Run the relevant E2E lane for infrastructure, sandbox, or policy changes. Guidance and template edits need applicable Markdown, YAML, link, and consistency checks. Do not require full Rust, SDK, or repository CI solely because a commit or PR is being created; broaden checks only for a concrete remaining risk or failed check.create-github-pr.Every PR from this issue-backed workflow must have its own existing issue and use Closes #<id> in its Related Issue section. For work needing multiple PRs, split the scope into a closable issue per PR. A high-level issue may track those issues but should not be closed by an incomplete PR. Report the implementation, verification, and any remaining limitation in the PR description, rather than copying earlier issue diagnostics.
Do not apply acceptance or roadmap decisions on behalf of a maintainer. Do not introduce agent:* workflow labels.

Run `npx skills add NVIDIA/OpenShell --skill build-from-issue -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/build-from-issue in NVIDIA/OpenShell) into .claude/skills/build-from-issue in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Build From Issue needs the command-line tools its instructions call (gh).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use gh, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Build From Issue is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Build From Issue: PR Babysitter (openinterpreter/openinterpreter, 69k stars), Diagnosing Superpowers Sessions (obra/superpowers, 296k stars), GitHub Deep Research (bytedance/deer-flow, 83k stars) and Greploop (onyx-dot-app/onyx, 32k stars). The comparison table on this page puts their stars, adoption, token cost, safety result and licence side by side.
