At a glance

Adds or updates a language translation in the app privacy policy generator by copying the English locale file, translating its values and building the site.

  • Works in 4 steps: Create locale JSON from English → Translate all string values → Preserve {{ variable }} placeholders → …
  • Adding a new language to the privacy policy generator
  • SKILL.md covers Quick Steps, Validation Checklist and Important Notes
  • Calls make

What it does

The steps are short: copy `src/locales/en.json` to a new file named with the ISO 639-1 language code, translate only the values and never the keys, and leave placeholders such as `{{ appName }}`, `{{ platformDesc }}` and `{{ deviceType }}` unchanged. Running `make build` makes the Go build tool pick up every JSON file in `src/locales/` and generate the HTML and JavaScript for each locale, after which the language dropdown in `public/index.html` lists the new language.

A validation checklist asks for valid JSON, preserved placeholders, translated UI labels, FAQ and disclaimer content, legal templates and platform vocabulary, a visible dropdown entry, a passing `make build` and a passing `make check`, which runs Go vet, the build, golden files and Playwright checks. The notes say legal text needs review by a native-speaking lawyer, third-party service names in `thirdpartyservices.yml` stay untranslated, and `meta.*` keys are updated by JavaScript after page load.

When your agent uses it

  • Adding a new language to the privacy policy generator
  • Updating an existing locale after the English strings change
  • Checking a translation before opening a pull request

Example prompts

  • “Add a German translation to the privacy policy generator.”
  • “Update the Spanish locale file with the new English strings and run the build.”
  • “Check my Japanese locale file for broken placeholders before I submit a PR.”

Requirements

  • Go and `make` to build and check the site

Workflow steps

4 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Create locale JSON from English
  2. Translate all string values
  3. Preserve {{ variable }} placeholders
  4. Build

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2848bb8. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • make

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Privacy Policy Generator Localization loads about 526 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 67 tokens; SKILL.md has 197 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~67
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~526

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Add or update a language translation in the privacy policy generator. Trigger when user says: "add {language} translation", "add locale", "translate to {language}", "add localization for {language}", or when a user wants to contribute a new language.

Add Localization

Quick Steps

1. Create locale JSON from English
sh
cp src/locales/en.json src/locales/{code}.json

Use the ISO 639-1 language code (e.g., es, fr, de, ja, pt, zh).

2. Translate all string values

Edit the new JSON file. Only translate values, never keys.

✅ Correct:

json
"wizard.step1.tagline": "Genera un documento personalizado..."

❌ Wrong — don't change keys:

json
"wizard.step1.tagline_es": "Genera un documento personalizado..."
3. Preserve {{ variable }} placeholders

Keep placeholders like {{ appName }}, {{ platformDesc }}, {{ deviceType }} unchanged in the translated text.

4. Build
sh
make build

The Go build tool detects every JSON file in src/locales/ and generates the HTML and JavaScript for each locale.

Open public/index.html — the language switcher dropdown now includes the new language.

Validation Checklist

  • JSON file is valid (no trailing commas, no duplicate keys)
  • All {{ variable }} placeholders preserved
  • UI labels, placeholders, help text translated
  • Legal templates translated (requires native-speaking legal review)
  • FAQ and disclaimer content translated
  • Platform vocabulary translated (device types, OS, browser strings)
  • Language appears in the dropdown
  • make build succeeds
  • make check passes (Go vet, build, golden, and Playwright checks)

Important Notes

  • Legal text needs professional review: Have a native-speaking lawyer review legal template translations.
  • Don't translate third-party service names in thirdpartyservices.yml — only the name field in the locale JSON if you add locale-specific names.
  • Meta tags (meta.* keys) are updated dynamically via JS after page load.
