  • Tasks that involve Jupyter notebooks
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

Changing Notebooks is an agent skill from Netflix-Skunkworks/oci-agent. Invoke this skill when making any modification to a notebook (.ipynb) in the OCI agent. Keywords: - .ipynb, Jupyter notebook - cell injection, comment-out cell - " === INJECTED BY OCI AGENT === " - " === COMMENTED OUT BY OCI AGENT === " - econml.ipynb, notebooks/ directory - parameterizing notebooks

Its SKILL.md is about 480 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Data & Analytics, covering Jupyter notebooks. It works with Jupyter. The licence is Apache-2.0.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Jupyter notebooks

Example prompts

  • “=== INJECTED BY OCI AGENT ===”
  • “=== COMMENTED OUT BY OCI AGENT ===”
  • “/changing-notebooks”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a978030. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Changing Notebooks loads about 484 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 81 tokens; SKILL.md has 231 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~81
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~484

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Keywords: - .ipynb, Jupyter notebook - cell injection, comment-out cell - "# === INJECTED BY OCI AGENT === #" - "# === COMMENTED OUT BY OCI AGENT === #" - econml.ipynb, notebooks/ directory - parameterizing notebooks
  • Never delete cells. Comment out their contents and add the header # === COMMENTED OUT BY OCI AGENT === #
  • Mark injected cells with the header # === INJECTED BY OCI AGENT === #
  • Never modify cell contents. Inject a new cell that implements the modification and comment out the old one.
  • Always leave the audit trail. No exceptions. Apply comment-out + inject for every notebook edit — including one-line fixes, edits the user requested directly, and edits in areas the user has previously collapsed to clean cells. The audit trail is the contract; pruning it is the user's call, not the agent's. The only exception: when in the same session you are rewriting your own prior injected cell — that case has no user-authored work to preserve.

Cell placement

  • Place each injected cell immediately after the cell it replaces. Keep the commented-out cell and its replacement adjacent so the diff is local.
  • Preserve cell type: replace a code cell with a code cell, a markdown cell with a markdown cell.
  • Do not inject above the top-of-notebook configuration cell. Do not inject below the results serialization cell at the bottom — nb_runner.py appends that at execution time.

Scope

  • In-scope modifications: estimator config, diagnostic / plotting cells, intermediate computation cells, code-cell logic changes.
  • Out-of-scope: editing the configuration cell to change spec parameters — change the spec instead, nb_runner.py injects parameters at run time.
  • Out-of-scope: adding a results serialization cell — nb_runner.py owns that and will append it.

How do I install Changing Notebooks in Codex?

Run `npx skills add Netflix-Skunkworks/oci-agent --skill changing-notebooks -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/changing-notebooks in Netflix-Skunkworks/oci-agent) into .agents/skills/changing-notebooks in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

Can I use Changing Notebooks in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Netflix-Skunkworks/oci-agent --skill changing-notebooks -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/changing-notebooks, .gemini/skills/changing-notebooks, .github/skills/changing-notebooks and .opencode/skills/changing-notebooks in your project.

What does Changing Notebooks need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Changing Notebooks is instructions for the agent only.

Does Changing Notebooks access the network?
