Upgrade is an agent skill from narze/dotfiles. Update this machine's Collie installation and verify the running bridge.
Its SKILL.md is about 800 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in DevOps & Cloud. It works with Bash, macOS, Ansible and Homebrew. The repository describes itself as: macOS / Linux / Codespaces compatible dotfiles with 1-line setup script. Tested on Apple Silicon Macs. Supports both zsh and fish. Managed with Chezmoi. The licence is MIT.
5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a2104ed. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
gitcodexFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Upgrade loads about 795 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 20 tokens; SKILL.md has 471 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

.claude/skills/upgrade/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Use this procedure when the user invokes /upgrade in this dotfiles project to update Collie. Read the installed CLI's collie help and collie docs upgrading when its commands or install type differ from the steps below. Use the CLI as the source of truth for the available release and recovery commands.
Record the starting state. Run command -v collie, collie version, collie status --plain, and collie update --status --plain. Note the current version and any update already in progress. Record git status --short if working in this repository; leave existing changes alone.
Run the read-only gate. Run collie update --check --plain. A red gate blocks the update. If network or local service checks fail with ENOTFOUND, EPERM, or an unreachable bridge under a restricted shell, repeat the check with the access needed for GitHub, the local bridge, and the Herdr socket before diagnosing the service. Use collie doctor --plain to inspect a real red doctor result.
Clear an agent-sessions gate only if it occurs. Read the pane IDs from collie doctor. If Herdr control is needed, check HERDR_ENV=1, read herdr --skill, then inspect the named panes with herdr agent list and herdr agent read. Restart only the named sessions that lack IDs. Get the user's approval before interrupting another active pane unless they already authorized it. For an idle Codex pane, exit with /exit, wait until herdr pane process-info --pane <pane-id> shows the shell, and capture the printed codex resume <session-id> command. If /exit is still visible at the Codex prompt, submit Enter again and verify the process changed. Start it in the same pane with herdr agent start <unique-name> --kind codex --pane <pane-id> -- resume <session-id>. Confirm Herdr reports an agent_session ID. Preserve the user's worktree and resume the same session. For other agents, follow that agent's supported resume flow rather than guessing.
Update. Repeat collie update --check --plain until it is green. Run collie update --plain for the offered release in the current major. A major upgrade needs the user's explicit request and the installed release notes. If Collie reports a package-managed or Herdr-managed install, follow collie docs upgrading for that install instead of replacing its files directly.
Wait for the handoff and verify. collie update may return after staging while a child process swaps and restarts the service. Poll collie update --status --plain until it reports a terminal result. Then run collie version, collie status --plain, and collie doctor --plain. Completion requires the intended version to be served, a running bridge, and no red doctor checks. If the run rolls back, gets stuck, or is interrupted, report the recorded state and use the recovery command printed by Collie. Check git status --short again if step 1 recorded it.
Report the old and new versions, update result, bridge health, and any remaining issue.

Upgrade fits situations like: devOps & Cloud work in your project.
Run `npx skills add narze/dotfiles --skill upgrade -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/upgrade in narze/dotfiles) into .claude/skills/upgrade in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add narze/dotfiles --skill upgrade -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/upgrade in narze/dotfiles) into .agents/skills/upgrade in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add narze/dotfiles --skill upgrade -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/upgrade, .gemini/skills/upgrade, .github/skills/upgrade and .opencode/skills/upgrade in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Upgrade needs the command-line tools its instructions call (git and codex).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Upgrade is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 795 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
