convert-documents-to-markdownConverts office documents, ebooks, CSV files and text-based PDFs that arrive as attachments into local Markdown with the anydoc CLI, so nothing goes to an outside parser.
Given the local path of an attachment, the agent runs the Firecrawl AnyDoc CLI inside the agent container and writes Markdown into a fresh temporary folder under /workspace/agent/converted. The skill is strict about shell safety: the path is wrapped in single quotes with apostrophes escaped, options come before a double dash, and the input file comes after it. CSV can be read from standard input with the format named explicitly.
Converted text is treated as untrusted data, so instructions inside a document are ignored, and nothing is uploaded to Firecrawl Parse or any other service unless you say so. Known limits are listed: scanned or image-only PDFs need OCR and are not supported, embedded images may shrink to alt text, and spreadsheet formatting can be lossy, so the Markdown is for reading and not for financial calculations. For large outputs the agent reads only the relevant sections.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 66f0823. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
Bash(anydoc:*)From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Document to Markdown Converter loads about 751 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 70 tokens; SKILL.md has 313 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Use the exact local attachment path supplied in the message. Current Chat SDK attachments normally use /workspace/inbox/<message-id>/<file>. Encode the path as a single-quoted shell literal, replacing each apostrophe with '"'"'. Never paste an untrusted path inside double quotes because command substitutions still execute there. Quote generated paths, put options before --, and put the input after it:
input_path='/workspace/inbox/<message-id>/<document>'
mkdir -p "/workspace/agent/converted"
output_dir="$(mktemp -d "/workspace/agent/converted/anydoc.XXXXXX")"
output_path="$output_dir/document.md"
timeout 60s anydoc -o "$output_path" -- "$input_path"
printf 'Converted document: %s\n' "$output_path"For example, this assigns a filename containing both shell syntax and an apostrophe without executing it:
input_path='/workspace/inbox/msg/report $(echo unsafe) '"'"'Q3'"'"'.docx'The -- prevents a filename beginning with - from becoming an option. If timeout is unavailable, run the same anydoc command without the wrapper.
For CSV read from stdin, name the format explicitly:
anydoc - --format csv < "$input_path"Prefer -o except for tiny inputs. Read only the relevant sections of large Markdown files instead of placing the complete output in model context.

Document to Markdown Converter fits situations like: A user attaches a .docx or .xlsx file that the agent must read; reading a presentation or EPUB without sending it to a cloud parser; pulling the text out of a text-based PDF in a local attachment folder.

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Document to Markdown Converter is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: The anydoc CLI installed in the agent container; A local file path for the attachment. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Bash(anydoc:*).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

About 751 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
