Pp GitHub is an agent skill from mvanhorn/printing-press-library. Every gh issue, PR, repo, and code-search workflow, plus a local SQLite mirror, offline full-text search Trigger phrases: find duplicate issues, who owes me reviews, what changed since the last release, who owns this file, search github offline, use github-pp-cli, run github-pp-cli.
Its SKILL.md is about 5.7k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Backend & APIs, covering Codebase onboarding and Search implementation. It works with GitHub and SQLite. The repository describes itself as: Official library of CLIs generated by the CLI Printing Press. Endorsed, tested, and community-contributed. The licence is Apache-2.0.
3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 7638ad4. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
ReadBashFrom allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
goclaudenpxFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):
docs.githubdocs.github.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
GITHUB_TOKENGH_TOKENFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Pp GitHub loads about 5.7k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 77 tokens; SKILL.md has 2,597 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.
allowed-tools: Read, BashAutomated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from mvanhorn/printing-press-library at commit 7638ad4, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© mvanhorn). 2,597 words, ~5,713 tokens.

This skill drives the github-pp-cli binary. You must verify the CLI is installed before invoking any command from this skill. If it is missing, install it first:
$HOME/.local/bin on macOS/Linux and %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PrintingPress\bin on Windows:npx -y @mvanhorn/printing-press-library install github --cli-onlygithub-pp-cli --version$PATH for the agent/runtime that will invoke this skill. If the npx install fails (no Node, offline, etc.), fall back to a direct Go install (requires Go 1.26.4 or newer). This installs into $GOPATH/bin (default $HOME/go/bin), so add that directory to $PATH instead:
go install github.com/mvanhorn/printing-press-library/library/developer-tools/github/cmd/github-pp-cli@latestIf --version reports "command not found" after install, the runtime cannot see the binary directory on $PATH. Do not proceed with skill commands until verification succeeds.
github-pp-cli mirrors the GitHub collaboration core — issues, pull requests, commits, branches, contents, labels, releases, and search — into a local SQLite store you sync once and query offline forever. It matches the gh CLI and the official MCP server command-for-command on the scoped surfaces, then adds offline FTS search that survives GitHub's rate limits and local joins (issues to PRs to commits to authors) the online API cannot express in a single call.
Choose github-pp-cli when you need to query GitHub's issue, PR, commit, and code-search data repeatedly or offline, when you need cross-entity answers (a symbol across issues+PRs+commits, review backlog by reviewer, file ownership) that take multiple gh calls and a spreadsheet, or when an agent needs an issue's full working set in one rate-limit-friendly read.
Do not use this CLI for:
These capabilities aren't available in any other tool for this API.
issues dupes — Find open issues whose title and body match a term, ranked by relevance, so you spot duplicates before re-triaging.
Reach for this when triaging a new issue and you need to know whether it duplicates an existing one without burning the search rate limit.
github-pp-cli issues dupes "panic on nil map" --repo cli/cli --limit 10mentions — One query across issue bodies, PR comments, and commit messages returning every place a symbol or error string appears, tagged by entity type.
Pick this over per-resource search when you need every reference to a symbol across issues, PRs, and commits at once.
github-pp-cli mentions "ParseConfig" --repo cli/cli --since 30d --jsonissues context — Assemble one JSON envelope for an issue: the issue, its comments, and the recent commits that mention it, ready for an agent to act on.
Use this as the first call when an agent is assigned an issue and needs its full working set in one shot instead of N round-trips.
github-pp-cli issues context 456 --repo cli/cli --agent --select issue.title,comments.body,commits.shapulls review-load — Aggregate open PRs by requested reviewer to show who has the largest unactioned review queue.
Reach for this in a pre-release sweep to find the review bottleneck before it slips the release train.
github-pp-cli pulls review-load --repo cli/cli --state openpulls stale — List open PRs with no new commit, review, or comment in N days, sorted by staleness with last-activity time.
Use this to decide which open PRs to nudge or close before they rot.
github-pp-cli pulls stale --repo cli/cli --older-than 14drepos changelog — List every commit between two refs, attach its PR when synced, and group by author for release-note prep.
Reach for this when drafting release notes and you need what merged since the last tag, organized by contributor.
github-pp-cli repos changelog --repo cli/cli --base v2.93.0 --head v2.94.0repos who-touched — For a file or directory prefix, rank committers by number of commits touching that path, with first and last touch dates.
Use this when onboarding onto an unfamiliar area to find who knows a file before you ask around.
github-pp-cli repos who-touched internal/parser --repo cli/cli --since 90dlabels coverage — Report each label's open and closed issue and PR counts, and flag labels that are defined but unused and issues that are unlabeled.
Reach for this during triage hygiene to prune dead labels and catch issues that slipped through unlabeled.

github-pp-cli which "<capability in your own words>"which resolves a natural-language capability query to the best matching command from this CLI's curated feature index. Exit code 0 means at least one match; exit code 2 means no confident match — fall back to --help or use a narrower query.
github-pp-cli sync --repo cli/cliGitHub list endpoints are path-scoped, so sync requires --repo owner/repo. After this, offline search and the novel aggregation commands can read from the local SQLite store.
github-pp-cli issues dupes "connection reset" --repo cli/cli --limit 10Populates the local mirror then FTS-matches synced issue titles/bodies so you label the canonical duplicate.
github-pp-cli mentions "ParseConfig" --repo cli/cli --since 30d --jsonOne local query returns every issue, PR, comment, and commit referencing the symbol, tagged by type.
github-pp-cli issues context 456 --repo cli/cli --agent --select issue.title,comments.body,commits.shaReturns the issue, its comments, and mentioning commits as one narrowed JSON envelope for a single offline read.
github-pp-cli repos who-touched internal/parser --repo cli/cli --since 90dRanks committers by commits touching the path so you know who to ask.
Set a personal access token in GITHUB_TOKEN (or GH_TOKEN). A fine-grained or classic PAT with the scopes your workflow needs works; read-only scopes suffice for sync and search. github-pp-cli doctor reports your token state and remaining rate-limit budget.
Run github-pp-cli doctor to verify setup.
Add --agent to any command. Expands to: --json --compact --no-input --no-color --yes.
Pipeable — JSON on stdout, errors on stderr
Filterable — --select keeps a subset of fields. Dotted paths descend into nested structures; arrays traverse element-wise. Critical for keeping context small on verbose APIs:
github-pp-cli branches list mock-value mock-value --agent --select id,name, statusPreviewable — --dry-run shows the request without sending
Offline-friendly — sync/search commands can use the local SQLite store when available
Non-interactive — never prompts, every input is a flag
Explicit retries — use --idempotent only when an already-existing create should count as success, and --ignore-missing only when a missing delete target should count as success
Commands that read from the local store or the API wrap output in a provenance envelope:
{
"meta": {"source": "live" | "local", "synced_at": "...", "reason": "..."},
"results": <data>
}Parse .results for data and .meta.source to know whether it's live or local. A human-readable N results (live) summary is printed to stderr only when stdout is a terminal AND no machine-format flag (--json, --csv, --compact, --quiet, --plain, --select) is set — piped/agent consumers and explicit-format runs get pure JSON on stdout.
When you (or the agent) notice something off about this CLI, record it:
github-pp-cli feedback "the --since flag is inclusive but docs say exclusive"
github-pp-cli feedback --stdin < notes.txt
github-pp-cli feedback list --json --limit 10Entries are stored locally at ~/.local/share/github-pp-cli/feedback.jsonl. They are never POSTed unless GITHUB_FEEDBACK_ENDPOINT is set AND either --send is passed or GITHUB_FEEDBACK_AUTO_SEND=true. Default behavior is local-only.
Write what surprised you, not a bug report. Short, specific, one line: that is the part that compounds.
Every command accepts --deliver <sink>. The output goes to the named sink in addition to (or instead of) stdout, so agents can route command results without hand-piping. Three sinks are supported:
| Sink | Effect |
|---|---|
stdout | Default; write to stdout only |
file:<path> | Atomically write output to <path> (tmp + rename) |
webhook:<url> | POST the output body to the URL (application/json or application/x-ndjson when --compact) |
Unknown schemes are refused with a structured error naming the supported set. Webhook failures return non-zero and log the URL + HTTP status on stderr.
A profile is a saved set of flag values, reused across invocations. Use it when a scheduled agent calls the same command every run with the same configuration - HeyGen's "Beacon" pattern.
github-pp-cli profile save briefing --json
github-pp-cli --profile briefing branches list mock-value mock-value
github-pp-cli profile list --json
github-pp-cli profile show briefing
github-pp-cli profile delete briefing --yesExplicit flags always win over profile values; profile values win over defaults. agent-context lists all available profiles under available_profiles so introspecting agents discover them at runtime.

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add mvanhorn/printing-press-library --skill pp-github -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/pp-github, .gemini/skills/pp-github, .github/skills/pp-github and .opencode/skills/pp-github in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Pp GitHub needs the command-line tools its instructions call (go, claude and npx) and credentials named GITHUB_TOKEN and GH_TOKEN. Our summary lists: Node.js. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Bash.
SKILL.md names 2 domains. As links in the text: docs.github and docs.github.com. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (pre-approves every shell command (allowed-tools: bash)), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Pp GitHub is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 5.7k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 23k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
