octo-summaryRead, create, find, and cite Octo summaries through octo-cli.
Octo Summary is an agent skill from Mininglamp-OSS/octo-cli. Read, create, find, and cite Octo summaries through octo-cli. Use when an agent needs to create an owner-only summary from explicit channels, discover summaries visible to its bot owner, inspect one summary, retrieve its current body, or ground an answer in returned citation metadata. Load after octo-shared.
Its SKILL.md is about 1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It sits in Backend & APIs, covering Citation management. The repository describes itself as: Metadata-driven CLI for AI Agent Bots — 48 operations across 7 domains, structured JSON envelope I/O, zero interactive prompts. The licence is Apache-2.0.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 6d21f11. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
OCTO_BOT_TOKENFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Octo Summary loads about 1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 81 tokens; SKILL.md has 478 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from Mininglamp-OSS/octo-cli at commit 6d21f11, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© Mininglamp-OSS). 478 words, ~1,045 tokens.
.claude/skills/octo-summary/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill can read summaries and create an owner-only asynchronous summary. It does not edit, regenerate, publish, or delete summaries.
Authenticate with the owner's bf_* personal Agent token through a stored profile or OCTO_BOT_TOKEN. Do not pass or rely on --space: the Summary service resolves both the human owner and Space from the bot token and applies the owner's existing Summary permissions.
Creation is a write operation. Confirm the requested channels and time range with the user before calling it. Only explicit sources are accepted; the service does not let the model search all owner channels implicitly.
Pass time_range and sources through --data, and always provide a stable idempotency key:
octo-cli summary create \
--idempotency-key project-weekly-2026w31 \
--data '{"title":"本周项目进展","topic":"整理决策、进展和风险","time_range":{"start":"2026-07-21T00:00:00+08:00","end":"2026-07-28T00:00:00+08:00"},"sources":[{"source_type":1,"source_id":"group-id"}]}'Reuse the same key only when retrying the exact same request body after an uncertain outcome. If any body field changes, generate a new key; reusing the old key with a changed body returns 409/40009. Never generate a fresh key merely because an otherwise unchanged first request timed out.
Source types are 1=group, 2=thread, and 3=DM. include_archived defaults to false. An optional origin channel must also be present in sources. Owner, bot identity, Space, source names, and participants are server-controlled; do not send uid, participants, source_name, or confirm_timeout_hours.
The result contains task_id with an initial pending status. Poll with summary get <task-id> until status is completed (3), failed (4), or cancelled (5), then use summary result <task-id>. Poll at most 60 times with a 5-second interval; if it is still pending after 5 minutes, report the task id and current status instead of continuing.
Treat 40301/40302 as a source authorization or Space mismatch. Treat 50301 as the create feature being disabled. Treat 409/40009 as key reuse with a changed body: preserve the existing task id for audit and use a new key only if the user still wants the modified request. Do not retry authorization or feature-disabled errors with altered identity or broader sources.

With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add Mininglamp-OSS/octo-cli --skill octo-summary -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/octo-summary, .gemini/skills/octo-summary, .github/skills/octo-summary and .opencode/skills/octo-summary in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Octo Summary needs credentials named OCTO_BOT_TOKEN. Our summary lists: A credential in OCTO_BOT_TOKEN.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Octo Summary is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 4.2k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
