azure-advisorReference guidance for Azure Advisor work: recommendations, alerts and digests, workbooks, RBAC access and sovereign-cloud limits, fetched from Microsoft Learn.
This skill is a reference guide for working with Azure Advisor, the service that produces recommendations on cost, performance, reliability and operational excellence. A category index points the agent to line ranges or linked files covering best practices, decision making, limits and quotas, security, configuration, and integrations and coding patterns. It combines quick-reference content stored locally with live fetching of Microsoft Learn pages.
Typical topics include assessing an architecture with Advisor and applying fixes in bulk, using workbooks and critical-risk views to plan migrations and estimate cost impact, feature differences in sovereign clouds such as Azure Government and China, access through roles and RBAC, and configuring alerts, digests and recommendation states through the portal, ARM or Bicep, tags and workbooks. It sends Cost Management, Azure Monitor, Azure Policy and Azure Security questions to other skills. If the bundled metadata is more than 3 months old, the agent suggests pulling a newer version.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit ba74e8f. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Requires network access. Uses mcp_microsoftdocs:microsoft_docs_fetch or fetch_webpage to retrieve documentation.
From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Azure Advisor Guidance loads about 1.7k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 127 tokens; SKILL.md has 512 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills at commit ba74e8f, republished under its CC-BY-4.0 licence (© MicrosoftDocs). 512 words, ~1,731 tokens.

A category index points the agent to line ranges or linked files covering best practices, decision making, limits and quotas, security, configuration, and integrations and coding patterns.
Azure Advisor Guidance fits situations like: configuring Azure Advisor alerts or email digests; managing the state of Advisor recommendations across many resources; setting up RBAC access to Advisor data for people or applications; checking which Advisor recommendations are supported in sovereign clouds.
Run `npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-advisor -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/azure-advisor in MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills) into .claude/skills/azure-advisor in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-advisor -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/azure-advisor in MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills) into .agents/skills/azure-advisor in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add MicrosoftDocs/Agent-Skills --skill azure-advisor -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/azure-advisor, .gemini/skills/azure-advisor, .github/skills/azure-advisor and .opencode/skills/azure-advisor in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Azure Advisor Guidance is instructions for the agent only. Our summary lists: Network access to fetch documentation; The Microsoft Docs MCP fetch tool or a general web page fetch tool. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Requires network access. Uses mcp_microsoftdocs:microsoft_docs_fetch or fetch_webpage to retrieve documentation..
SKILL.md names 2 domains. As links in the text: learn.microsoft.com and github.com. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Azure Advisor Guidance is published under the CC-BY-4.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.7k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 6.9k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
