What it does

Argus Status is an agent skill from microsoft/ArgusAgent, published by the product's own GitHub organization. Use when checking an Argus project's progress, pending questions, active role, diagnostics, selected artifacts, intervention state, recovery options, or graceful stop status.

Its SKILL.md is about 300 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).

It sits in Agent Workflows. The repository describes itself as: A persistent, reviewed multi-agent runtime for long-horizon research and engineering. The licence is MIT.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 746f76b. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Argus Status loads about 295 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 47 tokens; SKILL.md has 133 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~47

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Inspect And Control Argus

  1. Resolve the project ID from the user's explicit ID or call argus_project_list for the exact work directory.
  2. Call argus_status. Report daemon state, active role, completed and pending work, pending operator questions, and continuous objective separately.
  3. Call argus_artifacts when the user asks for outputs. Report only existing allowlisted artifacts returned by Argus.
  4. Call argus_doctor only when status exposes a runtime/backend fault or the user requests diagnostics.
  5. Send ordinary steering or answers through argus_message; Manager remains the operator front door.
  6. Call argus_stop only on an explicit stop request. Keep force=false unless the user explicitly requests a force stop after understanding interruption risk.

Do not count provider, transport, interrupted, or resource failures as task failures. Do not translate training loss or activity into a successful result.
