Scan Logs is an agent skill from marin-community/marin. Use scripts/logscan.py only when explicitly requested to scan an oversized log or to perform Gemini-backed log analysis.
Its SKILL.md is about 440 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
The repository describes itself as: Open-source framework for the research and development of foundation models. The licence is Apache-2.0.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 61bb85c. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
uvFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use uv, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
GEMINI_API_KEYFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Scan Logs loads about 438 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 33 tokens; SKILL.md has 173 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from marin-community/marin at commit 61bb85c, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© marin-community). 173 words, ~438 tokens.
.claude/skills/scan-logs/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).grep finds matching original lines; summarize produces a Markdown report.
They can run independently or as a pipeline.
GEMINI_API_KEY must be set. The log is sent to an external Gemini API and
incurs model usage; do not send secrets or sensitive logs without approval.
Returns line-numbered original lines matching a natural-language query.
uv run scripts/logscan.py grep <logfile> "<query>"Summarizes the log around the query, hierarchically reducing large inputs.
uv run scripts/logscan.py summarize <logfile> "<query>"Output is a markdown report on stdout.
Narrow first, then summarize through --stdin:
uv run scripts/logscan.py grep log.txt "errors" \
| uv run scripts/logscan.py summarize --stdin "summarize these errors"Behavior-changing options are --chunk-tokens, --concurrency, --model,
--stdin, and --verbose. The defaults are 5,000-token grep chunks,
50,000-token hierarchical summarize chunks, concurrency 16, and
gemini-2.5-flash-lite. Smaller grep chunks favor precise line matching;
large logs need no manual pre-split. Inspect --help before overriding them.
Both modes report progress and token usage to stderr. Read the matched source lines before accepting a generated diagnosis.

Run `npx skills add marin-community/marin --skill scan-logs -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/scan-logs in marin-community/marin) into .claude/skills/scan-logs in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add marin-community/marin --skill scan-logs -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.agents/skills/scan-logs in marin-community/marin) into .agents/skills/scan-logs in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add marin-community/marin --skill scan-logs -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/scan-logs, .gemini/skills/scan-logs, .github/skills/scan-logs and .opencode/skills/scan-logs in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Scan Logs needs the command-line tools its instructions call (uv) and credentials named GEMINI_API_KEY. Our summary lists: A credential in GEMINI_API_KEY.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use uv, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Scan Logs is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 438 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 1.8k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
