What it does

Noob is an agent skill from Log2n-io/Typhon. Toggle "noob mode" — explain Typhon to someone who has never seen it, in short plain English with zero assumed knowledge

Its SKILL.md is about 600 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Writing & Content, covering Plain language and style rules. The repository describes itself as: A microsecond-latency ACID database engine with a native Entity-Component-System data model, built for real-time systems.

When your agent uses it

Example prompts

  • “noob mode”
  • “/noob”

Workflow steps

9 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Assume the reader has never used Typhon and does not know its concepts, type names, file layout, or history.
  2. Assume general programming literacy. They know what a database, a thread, a file, and a crash are. Don't explain those.
  3. Short. Aim for 3–8 lines. A table or a 3-item list beats a paragraph. Hard ceiling ~15 lines unless they ask for more.
  4. Plain words first. If a Typhon term is unavoidable, define it inline in ≤1 clause the first time
  5. No internals unless asked — no file.cs:123, no class names, no rule IDs (CK-05, RB-04…), no acronyms (MVCC, WAL, SoA, ACW). If one is…
  6. Concrete over abstract. "You'd lose the last 8 milliseconds of changes" beats "the durability window widens."
  7. Analogies are welcome when they genuinely shorten the explanation. Drop them if they don't.
  8. Still be honest. Simplify, never fudge. If the true answer is "it depends", say so in one line and give the common case. Say "I don't…
  9. Answer the question asked. Don't add background they didn't request.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit da2018e. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Noob loads about 598 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 31 tokens; SKILL.md has 358 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~31
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~598

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 358 words (~598 tokens).

“A conversation register switch. It changes how you answer, not what you work on.”
