davinci-resolve-editorEdits DaVinci Resolve Studio projects and timelines safely through the davinci-resolve-mcp server or the Resolve Python API, with approval before writes and readback after.
The agent works only from an approved blueprint. To connect, it confirms Resolve Studio is open with external scripting set to Local and calls get_version. If the MCP tool is missing, it separates a registration problem from a server failure, since a config file alone is not proof of connection, and offers blueprint-only delivery or the official Python API as a fallback. The upstream MCP server is installed with npx davinci-resolve-mcp setup once you approve.
Before changing Resolve, the agent states the project and timeline names, tracks, media paths and the color, audio, subtitle and render operations, then waits for explicit approval. Large revisions go into a new project or duplicated timeline so your tracks, grades and manual work stay intact. Building converts seconds to frames at the real project frame rate, keeps source ranges inside probed bounds and applies LUTs only to verified groups. Afterward it reads back item counts per track, gaps, overlaps, source paths and ranges, and never reports a rejected operation as done.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 93cf371. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

DaVinci Resolve Editor loads about 852 tokens when it runs, and up to ~9.2k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 96 tokens; SKILL.md has 389 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Obtain explicit approval. Use a new project or duplicated timeline for substantial revisions. Preserve existing user tracks, audio, grades, and manual work unless the user explicitly authorizes modification.
Read back and report:
A failed report or a report for an older timeline is not delivery.
Export or report enough timeline information for the parent pipeline to compare the finished cut with the approved script: clip time ranges, source paths, track roles, markers, captions, and narration/dialogue placement. Do not make pickup-shot recommendations from the blueprint alone when a finished timeline exists.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, DaVinci Resolve Editor needs the command-line tools its instructions call (npx). Our summary lists: DaVinci Resolve Studio running with external scripting set to Local; The davinci-resolve-mcp server or the Resolve Python API; Node.js with npx to install the MCP server.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use npx, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

About 852 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 8.3k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
