slackTalk with people on Slack — recognize slack- senders and reach them via chat reply
Slack is an agent skill from laude-institute/headlong. Talk with people on Slack — recognize slack- senders and reach them via chat reply
Its SKILL.md is about 830 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.
It works with Slack. The repository describes itself as: An open source agent microharness featuring persistent agency and recursive LLMs. Of bash, by bash, for bash; it's shells all the way down. The licence is Apache-2.0.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit c43e597. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are bash).
From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Slack loads about 831 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 22 tokens; SKILL.md has 439 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from laude-institute/headlong at commit c43e597, republished under its Apache-2.0 licence (© laude-institute). 439 words, ~831 tokens.
.claude/skills/slack/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).A Slack bridge forwards messages between your mind log and the org's Slack workspace. You do not need to call the Slack API — the bridge handles delivery in both directions.
Messages from Slack arrive as normal message steps whose from looks like:
slack-U07AB12CD-D09XYZ123 — a direct messageslack-U07AB12CD-C09XYZ123-1722400000.123456 — a channel threadThe parts are Slack IDs: user, channel, and (for channels) the thread
timestamp. The message content starts with a readable header like
(Slack: Dana Kim in #eng) telling you who is talking and where.
Some senders are other Headlong personas, not people. Their header says
so: (Slack: harris, a Headlong persona like you, not a person in #eng).
Reply to them the same way. Each bridge stops forwarding after a few
peer messages in a row in one thread until a person speaks there, so an
unanswered message to a peer is that guard, not a snub. Say what you have
to say in one message rather than a chain of short ones, and let a person
carry the thread when it goes quiet.
Reply exactly as you would to any other sender — the bridge delivers it to the right Slack conversation (in-thread for channels, top-level for DMs):
chat reply slack-U07AB12CD-C09XYZ123-1722400000.123456 "On it — deploy is green."Always use the sender's full slack-… name verbatim as the reply target.
Do not shorten it or substitute the person's display name.
Add an emoji reaction to the Slack message you are answering. Use the
Slack short name (thumbsup, eyes, +1), not unicode:
chat react slack-U07AB12CD-C09XYZ123-1722400000.123456 thumbsup
chat react --reply-to <inbound-step-id> slack-U07AB12CD-C09XYZ123-1722400000.123456 eyes--reply-to copies that inbound step's source_url so the reaction
lands on the specific message, not just the thread root. Needs the
Slack app's reactions:write scope (reinstall after it lands).
To continue a Slack conversation later (e.g. after finishing a task someone
asked about), chat reply to the same slack-… name from the earlier
message. The bridge posts it into that conversation.
Two short forms exist for when you are starting the conversation:
slack-C09XYZ123 — post top-level in that channelslack-U07AB12CD — DM that person (the bridge opens the DM)chat send --to slack-C09XYZ123 "Daily papers for today: ..."
chat send --to slack-U07AB12CD "Built the thing you asked about."Slack ids are uppercase; users start with U, channels with C. chat rejects
any other slack-… shape with a non-zero exit, and the bridge writes a
delivery step back to your trajectory for every send, status: delivered
with the permalink or status: failed with the reason. A failed delivery
shows in your recent stream; check it before assuming a message landed.
Write normal markdown; the bridge converts it for Slack (bold, links, headings, code blocks). Long messages are split automatically. Prefer concise messages — it is chat, not a report.

Works with
Talk with people on Slack — recognize slack- senders and reach them via chat reply. Slack is an agent skill from laude-institute/headlong.
Run `npx skills add laude-institute/headlong --skill slack -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/slack in laude-institute/headlong) into .claude/skills/slack in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add laude-institute/headlong --skill slack -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/slack in laude-institute/headlong) into .agents/skills/slack in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add laude-institute/headlong --skill slack -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/slack, .gemini/skills/slack, .github/skills/slack and .opencode/skills/slack in your project.
SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Slack is instructions for the agent only.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Slack is published under the Apache-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 831 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.3k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
