What it does

Vault Ops is an agent skill from kv0906/pm-kit. Core vault file operations — read/write notes, manage wiki-links, process templates with Handlebars syntax, enforce naming conventions. Auto-invoked for all file operations.

Its SKILL.md is about 840 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

The repository describes itself as: AI-augmented PM workspace for Coding Agents — daily standups, decisions, blockers, docs, and sprint reviews as markdown skills. The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/vault-ops”

Requirements

  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Write, Edit, Glob, Grep

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Check if note already exists (naming-as-API enables fast lookup)
  2. Load appropriate template from _templates/
  3. Replace template variables (Handlebars syntax)
  4. Add YAML frontmatter with type, project, status, date, tags
  5. Insert wiki-links to related notes
  6. Write to correct folder per naming convention

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 2cb5d9f. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Write
    • Edit
    • Glob
    • Grep

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are markdown and yaml).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Vault Ops loads about 844 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 46 tokens; SKILL.md has 185 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~46
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~844

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Vault Operations Skill

Core operations for reading, writing, and managing files in a PM-Kit vault.

Naming Conventions (Naming-as-API)

Strict filename patterns enable glob queries without a database:

File Operations

Creating Notes
  1. Check if note already exists (naming-as-API enables fast lookup)
  2. Load appropriate template from _templates/
  3. Replace template variables (Handlebars syntax)
  4. Add YAML frontmatter with type, project, status, date, tags
  5. Insert wiki-links to related notes
  6. Write to correct folder per naming convention
Editing Notes
  • Preserve YAML frontmatter structure
  • Maintain existing wiki-links
  • Use consistent heading hierarchy
  • Apply standard tag format
markdown
Note Name # Simple link
Display Text # Link with alias
Note Name#Section # Link to heading
Name # Link with path

Template Variables

When processing templates, replace Handlebars syntax:

  • date → Today's date (YYYY-MM-DD)
  • project → Project ID
  • → Project display name
  • title → Note title
  • slug → URL-safe slug

YAML Frontmatter

All notes require frontmatter:

yaml
---
type: [daily|doc|decision|blocker|meeting|inbox|index]
project: {project-id}
status: {per note_types in config.yaml}
date: YYYY-MM-DD
tags: []
---

Auto-Linking Rules

Daily (blocked item)blockers/{project}/
Meetingdecisions/{project}/, blockers/{project}/
Decisiondocs/{project}/

Archive Rules

Move to _archive/YYYY-MM/ when:

  • Blocker status → resolved
  • Doc status → shipped
  • Decision status → superseded

Can I use Vault Ops in Cursor, Gemini CLI or GitHub Copilot?

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add kv0906/pm-kit --skill vault-ops -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/vault-ops, .gemini/skills/vault-ops, .github/skills/vault-ops and .opencode/skills/vault-ops in your project.

What does Vault Ops need to run?

SKILL.md names no scripts, command-line tools or credentials: Vault Ops is instructions for the agent only. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Write, Edit, Glob, Grep.

Does Vault Ops access the network?

SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.

Is Vault Ops safe to install?

Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.

What licence does Vault Ops use?

Vault Ops is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.

How many tokens does Vault Ops use?

About 844 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.4k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.

What are the alternatives to Vault Ops?
