docx-cliRead, edit, redline, comment on, and create Microsoft Word .docx files.
DOCX CLI is an agent skill from kklimuk/docx-cli. Read, edit, redline, comment on, and create Microsoft Word .docx files. Use to fill out or edit a Word doc, redline a contract with tracked changes, add/resolve comments, replace text keeping its formatting, restyle headings/fonts, edit tables, or read/extract a .docx as Markdown or text. Also BUILD a new .docx — from Markdown or programmatically (code that outputs a Word report with headings, tables, images). Not for PDF, Google Docs, Excel, PowerPoint, or .doc.
Its SKILL.md is about 1.9k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 6 other files, including scripts and reference files (for example `references/commands.md`, `references/troubleshooting.md` and `scripts/bootstrap.sh`).
It sits in Documents & Office, covering Word documents. It works with Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. The repository describes itself as: CLI for AI agents (Claude, Codex) to read, edit, and comment on .docx files with full format fidelity. The licence is MIT.
7 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 74672e4. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

Ships 2 files in scripts/ (Shell), which the agent can run.

DOCX CLI loads about 1.9k tokens when it runs, and up to ~4.7k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 119 tokens; SKILL.md has 736 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found patterns that need a careful read before installing.

It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

Microsoft Word .docx files. It edits the underlying OOXML in place (it never
rebuilds the document from a lossy view), addresses everything with stable
locators, and signals success through an exit code plus a one-line
confirmation — so even small, cheap models can drive it reliably.
Run docx --version. If you get "command not found", install it. Prefer the npm
registry — no shell piping, and the package runs no install scripts:
bun add -g bun-docx # or: npm install -g bun-docx (needs Bun >= 1.3)No Bun? From this skill folder run sh scripts/bootstrap.sh. It downloads no
scripts and runs no remote code — it resolves the latest release tag from the
GitHub API, downloads that release's prebuilt binary pinned to the tag, and
verifies its SHA-256 against the release's published SHA256SUMS before
installing. (By hand: download docx-<platform> + SHA256SUMS from
https://github.com/kklimuk/docx-cli/releases/latest, verify, chmod +x, put it on
PATH.) Every verb works against the .docx zip directly; only docx render needs
Word (macOS/Windows) or LibreOffice installed.

Read, edit, redline, comment on, and create Microsoft Word .docx files. DOCX CLI is an agent skill from kklimuk/docx-cli.docx files.
DOCX CLI fits situations like: edit a Word doc; redline a contract with tracked changes; add/resolve comments; replace text keeping its formatting.
Run `npx skills add kklimuk/docx-cli --skill docx-cli -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/docx-cli in kklimuk/docx-cli) into .claude/skills/docx-cli in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add kklimuk/docx-cli --skill docx-cli -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (skills/docx-cli in kklimuk/docx-cli) into .agents/skills/docx-cli in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.

With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add kklimuk/docx-cli --skill docx-cli -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/docx-cli, .gemini/skills/docx-cli, .github/skills/docx-cli and .opencode/skills/docx-cli in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, DOCX CLI needs a shell for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (bun and sh). Our summary lists: Node.js; A Bash shell.
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Any network use would come from the scripts or tools the agent runs. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md flagged 1 warning(s): contains instruction-override wording (e.g. “without asking the user”). Read the flagged lines before installing; the check is not a guarantee either way. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
DOCX CLI is published under the MIT licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.9k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 7.7k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 2.8k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with DOCX CLI: Learn (iurykrieger/claude-bedrock, 105 stars), Teach (ccplugins/awesome-claude-code-plugins, 967 stars), Markitdown (ImCa0/just-laws, 781 stars) and GenOffice Document CLI (genspark-ai/genoffice, 8.8k stars).
