github-issue-readerPulls a GitHub issue's description, comments, labels, assignees, milestone and linked pull requests into one markdown report so the agent can plan a fix.
This skill runs a bundled Python script, fetch_issue.py, that collects everything attached to a GitHub issue and prints it as formatted markdown. The report covers the title, URL, open or closed state, author, timestamps, labels, assignees, milestone, the full description and every comment with its author and time.
You can point it at an issue in three ways: a bare number for the current repository, an owner/repo#number reference, or a full issue URL. It also lists cross-referenced issues and linked pull requests, so the agent sees existing work before it writes a plan. The GitHub CLI (gh) has to be installed and logged in, and the script reports a missing install, a missing login or an unknown issue.
3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 34289ff. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships 1 file in scripts/ (Python), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
ghFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:
github.comAlso links to:
cli.github.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
GitHub Issue Reader loads about 958 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 95 tokens; SKILL.md has 347 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); the scripts in this folder are not scanned.

.claude/skills/github-issue-reader/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder). This skill also uses 1 other file; get the full folder from GitHub.Fetch complete GitHub issue information to provide context for planning and implementation. This skill retrieves all relevant data from a GitHub issue including the description, all comments and discussion, metadata (labels, assignees, milestones), and related items (linked pull requests and cross-referenced issues).
Use this skill when:
Fetch issue information using the fetch_issue.py script with any of these formats:
# Current repository issue by number
scripts/fetch_issue.py 123
# Specific repository issue
scripts/fetch_issue.py owner/repo#456
# Issue by full URL
scripts/fetch_issue.py https://github.com/owner/repo/issues/789The script outputs formatted markdown containing all issue information.
Ensure the GitHub CLI (gh) is installed and authenticated:
gh auth statusIf not authenticated, run:
gh auth loginExecute the fetch_issue.py script with an issue reference. The script accepts three formats:
123owner/repo#123https://github.com/owner/repo/issues/123The script will fetch and output:

GitHub Issue Reader fits situations like: planning a fix for a specific GitHub issue; gathering requirements from an issue thread before coding starts; checking which pull requests are already linked to an issue; reviewing the history and discussion of a long-running issue.
Run `npx skills add jumppad-labs/jumppad --skill github-issue-reader -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/github-issue-reader in jumppad-labs/jumppad) into .claude/skills/github-issue-reader in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.

Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add jumppad-labs/jumppad --skill github-issue-reader -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). Going by SKILL.md and its folder, GitHub Issue Reader needs Python for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (gh). Our summary lists: GitHub CLI (gh), installed and authenticated; Python to run scripts/fetch_issue.py.
SKILL.md names 2 domains. In commands or code: github.com; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. As links in the text: cli.github.com. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. The check reads SKILL.md only: the scripts in the folder are not scanned, so read them before running anything.
GitHub Issue Reader is published under the MPL-2.0 licence (the repository's licence). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 958 tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 3.8k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with GitHub Issue Reader: Ask Navigator (Yeachan-Heo/oh-my-claudecode, 40k stars), PRP Implementation Planner (Wirasm/prp, 2.3k stars), PRP Plan (Wirasm/prp, 2.3k stars) and Dev Request (FHIR/fhir-codegen, 154 stars).
