scholar-analyzeRun data analytics and produce publication-quality tables and visualizations for social science research.
Scholar Analyze is an agent skill from joshzyj/open-scholar-skill. Run data analytics and produce publication-quality tables and visualizations for social science research. Saves regression tables (HTML/TeX/docx), figures (PDF/PNG), an internal analysis log, and a publication-ready Results document (prose + table notes + figure captions). Accepts file paths, inline/pasted data, or fetches from online sources (NHANES, IPUMS, GSS, World Bank, etc.). Runs A9/B9 verification subagents to check analytic and visualization correctness. For causal designs, invokes /scholar-causal first…
Its SKILL.md is about 20k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 20 other files, including reference files (for example `references/adjudication-rule.md`, `references/analysis-standards.md` and `references/component-a-bayesian.md`).
It sits in Documents & Office, covering Data analysis, Data visualization and Word documents. It works with Microsoft Word. The repository describes itself as: Open scholar skill, a claude code plugin, for academic research.
4 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 6e5ac8e. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.
From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Ships script files (R), which the agent can run.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
bashnpxnodeFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use npx, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.
From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.
From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Scholar Analyze loads about 20k tokens when it runs, and up to ~74k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 140 tokens; SKILL.md has 5,998 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check noted patterns worth knowing about, such as sudo or a known installer.
ion:** If `VIZ_ENGINE=python` is set in `.env`, default to Python for all B1-B7 equivalents. Otherwise default to R.Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 5,998 words (~20,382 tokens).
“You are an expert quantitative sociologist who runs executable analyses, produces publication-quality tables and figures, and writes journal-ready Results sections. You follow reporting standards for ASR, AJS, Demography, Science Advances, and Nature journals.”

Run data analytics and produce publication-quality tables and visualizations for social science research. Scholar Analyze is an agent skill from joshzyj/open-scholar-skill. Run data analytics and produce publication-quality tables and visualizations for social science research.
Scholar Analyze fits situations like: tasks that involve Data analysis; tasks that involve Data visualization; tasks that involve Word documents.
Run `npx skills add joshzyj/open-scholar-skill --skill scholar-analyze -a claude-code`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/scholar-analyze in joshzyj/open-scholar-skill) into .claude/skills/scholar-analyze in your project. Claude Code loads it when a task matches its description.
Run `npx skills add joshzyj/open-scholar-skill --skill scholar-analyze -a codex`. Or copy the skill folder (.claude/skills/scholar-analyze in joshzyj/open-scholar-skill) into .agents/skills/scholar-analyze in your project. Codex loads it when a task matches its description.
Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and OpenCode also load SKILL.md folders. With the skills CLI, run `npx skills add joshzyj/open-scholar-skill --skill scholar-analyze -a cursor` (or -a gemini-cli, github-copilot or opencode for the others). To copy it by hand, put the folder in .cursor/skills/scholar-analyze, .gemini/skills/scholar-analyze, .github/skills/scholar-analyze and .opencode/skills/scholar-analyze in your project.
Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Scholar Analyze needs R for the scripts in its folder and the command-line tools its instructions call (bash, npx and node).
SKILL.md contains no URLs. Its commands use npx, which can reach the network depending on how they are called. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found notes only (mentions a .env file), nothing it rates as a warning. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Scholar Analyze has a licence file (the repository's licence) that doesn't match a standard licence. Read it on GitHub before reusing the skill.
About 20k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 82k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 53k tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
Skills that share tags, products or a category with Scholar Analyze: Publication Output (brycewang-stanford/Auto-Empirical-Research-Skills, 4.5k stars), Latex To Word Workflow (hajimi-kun/latex-to-word-workflow, 128 stars), Review Revision (M1n-n9/paper-lifecycle, 692 stars) and Review Paper (maxwell2732/my-submission-formatting-agent, 111 stars).
