What it does

Docker Compose Tests is an agent skill from jillesvangurp/kt-search. Use Gradle Compose tasks to prepare and recover local Elasticsearch/OpenSearch test infrastructure in kt-search. Trigger this skill when tests or docs generation require a running cluster (especially localhost:9990), when instructions say to run ./gradlew composeUp before tests, or when compose startup fails due stale/conflicting containers.

Its SKILL.md is about 300 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).

It sits in Mobile, covering Containers, Search implementation and Android development. It works with Docker, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch and Gradle. The repository describes itself as: Multi platform kotlin client for Elasticsearch & Opensearch with easily extendable Kotlin DSLs for queries, mappings, bulk, and more. The licence is MIT.

Workflow steps

3 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Start test infrastructure
  2. Run the target tests (examples)
  3. Optionally stop infrastructure

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 7ff311b. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Docker Compose Tests loads about 295 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 91 tokens; SKILL.md has 96 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~91
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~295

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Docker Compose Tests

Use Gradle Compose tasks, not raw docker compose commands, for this repository.

Standard Workflow

  1. Start test infrastructure: ./gradlew composeUp
  2. Run the target tests (examples): ./gradlew :docs:test --tests '*DocumentationTest*' --rerun-tasks ./gradlew :search-client:jvmTest
  3. Optionally stop infrastructure: ./gradlew composeDown

Recovery Workflow

If composeUp fails with container name conflicts (for example /testes):

  1. ./gradlew composeDown
  2. ./gradlew composeUp
  3. Re-run the failed test command

Rules

  • Prefer ./gradlew composeUp as the canonical startup path.
  • Do not disable docs examples to bypass failing docs tests.
  • Regenerate docs with test commands (not manual edits of generated outputs).
