What it does

Task Resolve is an agent skill from jiangzhe/doradb. Resolve implemented Doradb task documents after code, tests, review, and behavior verification are complete. Use when running the mandatory style gate, compacting design-heavy task documents into durable historical records, recording implementation outcomes, managing deferred or source backlogs, refreshing task ids, and synchronizing a parent RFC phase without committing or pushing.

Its SKILL.md is about 1.5k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files (for example `agents/openai.yaml`).

It sits in Development. The repository describes itself as: DoraDB - Async Rust storage engine. The licence is Apache-2.0.

Workflow steps

8 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.

  1. Run the Style Gate
  2. Confirm Readiness

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 3291b68. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    Shell commands in SKILL.md call:

    • git
    • cargo

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

No URLs in SKILL.md. Its commands use git, which can reach the network depending on how they are called.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Task Resolve loads about 1.5k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 100 tokens; SKILL.md has 678 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~100
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.5k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Resolve implemented Doradb task documents after code, tests, review, and behavior verification are complete. Use when running the mandatory style gate, compacting design-heavy task documents into durable historical records, recording implementation outcomes, managing deferred or source backlogs, refreshing task ids, and synchronizing a parent RFC phase without committing or pushing.

Task Resolve Workflow

Use this skill from a task worktree only after implementation, tests, review, and behavior verification are complete. Scripts are executable; invoke them directly (no cargo +nightly -Zscript prefix).

Required Flow

1. Run the Style Gate

Run $style-audit branch-diff mode before any other resolve action:

bash
tools/style_audit.rs --diff-base origin/main

This includes committed task-branch Rust changes relative to merge-base(origin/main, HEAD).

If formatting, clippy, or repository style diagnostics fail, stop immediately. Do not edit task or RFC documents, close backlogs, or perform later resolve steps. Report the failure and leave the fix strategy to the developer; do not auto-format or edit implementation code as part of resolution.

2. Confirm Readiness

Confirm known implementation and review issues are fixed or explicitly accepted or deferred.

3. Compact and Synchronize the Task Document

Edit the task document directly. Preserve its frontmatter, title, and the section structure of docs/tasks/000000-template.md, but rewrite the content as a concise historical record of the shipped work rather than leaving it as an implementation guide.

Before removing design-phase detail, inspect the final branch diff and capture the material implementation, test, review, verification, and plan-deviation outcomes in Implementation Notes. Preserve explicit Parent RFC:, Source Backlogs:, issue metadata, and follow-up paths so later resolve tools and future readers retain traceability.

Compact every section according to its historical purpose:

  • Summary: retain the problem, shipped solution, and resulting behavior.
  • Context: retain motivating evidence, durable constraints, and relevant RFC, task, issue, or backlog relationships.
  • Goals and Non-Goals: retain delivered contracts and meaningful scope boundaries that remain useful in later design or investigation.
  • Plan: replace step-by-step implementation instructions with the final architecture, interfaces, data flow, correctness invariants, and material rationale or rejected alternatives.
  • Implementation Notes: retain actual outcomes, material deviations, review discoveries, benchmark findings, and final verification evidence. Omit small internal fixes unless they changed the plan, user-visible behavior, acceptance criteria, RFC or backlog synchronization, or follow-up decisions.
  • Impacts: retain affected subsystems plus public API, data-format, schema, compatibility, performance, or operational effects; remove exhaustive symbol and file inventories.
  • Test Cases: retain concise acceptance scenarios and the coverage actually completed; remove duplicated test mechanics, routine command listings, and raw output.
  • Open Questions: retain only unresolved questions or future improvements, with linked backlogs when actionable. Remove questions resolved by the implementation.

Remove code snippets already represented by the codebase, granular edit instructions, obsolete implementation caveats, proposal-round scaffolding, large reference inventories, and repeated content. Retain a short snippet only when it is the durable record of a protocol, format, invariant, or decision not documented adequately elsewhere.

Aim for 200 to 300 lines in a normally complex resolved task:

  • do not pad an already concise task to reach the range;
  • exceed 300 lines only when further reduction would lose durable context, and explain the reason in the resolve handoff;
  • check the final size with wc -l docs/tasks/000042-example.md;
  • re-read the compacted task for consistency with the shipped implementation and ensure Implementation Notes starts with a meaningful outcome suitable for the default RFC synchronization summary.

4. Record Deferred Work

Create or link actionable follow-up backlogs with $backlog.

For intentionally deferred work, include:

  • Deferred From: the current task and parent RFC when applicable;
  • Deferral Context: defer reason, findings, and direction hint.

Use file-backed flags for multiline text, markdown, Rust code, or text with backticks.

5. Close Source Backlogs

For every open entry under Source Backlogs:, resolve its path when needed:

bash
tools/doc-id.rs search-by-id --kind backlog --id 000123 --scope open

Then close it as implemented:

bash
tools/backlog.rs close-doc \
  --path docs/backlogs/000123-example.md \
  --type implemented \
  --detail "Implemented via docs/tasks/000042-example.md"

Use --detail-file or --reference-file when inline text is not shell-safe.

6. Refresh the Task Id State

Before RFC synchronization, run:

bash
tools/task.rs resolve-task-next-id \
  --task docs/tasks/000042-example.md

This updates local docs/tasks/next-id to at least the largest of the local value, fetched origin/main value, and resolved task id plus one.

7. Synchronize the Parent RFC

Always check parent RFC linkage. When present, update the matching RFC phase plan if implementation changed prerequisites, phase-local choices, After This Phase, non-goals, or following-phase assumptions, then run:

bash
tools/task.rs resolve-task-rfc \
  --task docs/tasks/000042-example.md

Use --summary-file for multiline summaries or content containing markdown, Rust code, or backticks.

8. Stop at Documentation Synchronization

Do not run git commit or git push. Limit this workflow to task-document synchronization and required backlog or RFC updates. Publication requires a separate explicit request.
