vercel-cost-tuningOptimize Vercel costs through plan selection, function efficiency, and usage monitoring.
Vercel Cost Tuning is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Optimize Vercel costs through plan selection, function efficiency, and usage monitoring. Use when analyzing Vercel billing, reducing function execution costs, or implementing spend management and budget alerts. Trigger with phrases like "vercel cost", "vercel billing", "reduce vercel costs", "vercel pricing", "vercel expensive", "vercel budget".
Its SKILL.md is about 1.9k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 5 other files, including reference files (for example `references/cost-estimation.md`, `references/cost-reduction-strategies.md` and `references/errors.md`). Compatibility notes: Designed for Claude Code
It sits in Business, Finance & HR, covering Accounting and bookkeeping. It works with Vercel. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.
6 steps, taken from the step headings in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cfae287. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
ReadWriteEditBash(vercel:*)Bash(curl:*)GrepFrom allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
curljqFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Hosts in commands or code, which the agent is likely to contact:
api.vercel.comAlso links to:
vercel.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
VERCEL_TOKENFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Designed for Claude Code
From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Vercel Cost Tuning loads about 1.9k tokens when it runs, and up to ~2.5k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 92 tokens; SKILL.md has 497 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

# 2. Bandwidth (large responses, unoptimized images)
# 3. Edge Middleware invocations (runs on EVERY request)

# 5. Build minutes (frequent deploys or slow builds)// 1. Right-size function memory — don't over-allocate

// Avoid: database queries, external API calls, heavy computation
// Good: cookie checks, header modifications, redirects

Add s-maxage cache headers | High — eliminates function invocations | Low |
| Use Edge Functions for simple endpoints | Medium — cheaper than serverless | Low |
| Right-size function memory | Medium — reduces GB-hr cost | Low |
| Scope middleware matcher | Medium — reduces edge invocations | Low |
| Enable image optimization | Medium — reduces bandwidth | Low |
| Use ISR instead of SSR | High — serves cached HTML | Medium |
| Optimize build speed | Low — reduces build minutes | Medium |
| Set spend management alerts | Safety — prevents surprise bills | Low |
| Error | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Unexpected bill spike | Uncached high-traffic endpoint | Add s-maxage to the response |
| Projects paused | Hard spending limit reached | Increase limit or optimize usage |
| Image optimization quota exceeded | Too many unique image transforms | Reduce sizes array, increase cache TTL |
| Build minutes exceeded | Slow builds or too many deploys | Use ignoreCommand to skip non-code changes |
For a high-traffic read endpoint, add a conservative s-maxage response policy in a preview deployment and compare invocation count, cache hit rate, and response correctness against the prior release using synthetic requests. Set spend alerts before rollout and avoid a hard account-wide pause unless the owner accepts its blast radius. If personalized content is accidentally cached, immediately roll back the header change, purge only the affected deployment cache where supported, and document the regression.

Going by SKILL.md and its folder, Vercel Cost Tuning needs the command-line tools its instructions call (curl and jq) and credentials named VERCEL_TOKEN. Our summary lists: A credential in VERCEL_TOKEN. Its frontmatter pre-approves these tools: Read, Write, Edit, Bash(vercel:*), Bash(curl:*), Grep. Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Designed for Claude Code.
SKILL.md names 2 domains. In commands or code: api.vercel.com; the agent is likely to contact it when it follows the instructions. As links in the text: vercel.com. This is read from the text; nothing was executed.
Our automated static check of SKILL.md found no risky patterns, such as piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files or hidden Unicode. It is not a guarantee. Review the folder before installing.
Vercel Cost Tuning is published under the MIT licence (declared in SKILL.md). It allows redistribution, so the full SKILL.md is shown on this page.
About 1.9k tokens (SKILL.md is roughly 7.5k characters). Agents keep only the skill's name and description in context until a task matches; then they load SKILL.md in full. Its references folder adds about 612 tokens, read only when the agent opens those files.
