What it does

Techsmith Webhooks Events is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Process Snagit COM completion and local TechSmith artifact events with bounded watchers, stable-file checks, deduplication, and recovery. Use when a desktop workflow needs event-driven handoff without pretending TechSmith exposes webhooks. Trigger with "TechSmith events", "Snagit capture event", or "watch Camtasia output".

Its SKILL.md is about 1.1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/official-docs.md`). Compatibility notes: Designed for Claude Code; TechSmith product execution requires an approved Windows or macOS desktop as documented

It sits in Backend & APIs, covering Webhooks, Event-driven systems and Data cleaning. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • A desktop workflow needs event-driven handoff without pretending TechSmith exposes webhooks
  • With TechSmith events
  • Snagit capture event
  • Watch Camtasia output

Example prompts

  • “TechSmith events”
  • “Snagit capture event”
  • “watch Camtasia output”
  • “/techsmith-webhooks-events”

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Designed for Claude Code; TechSmith product execution requires an approved Windows or macOS desktop as documented
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Glob, Grep, WebFetch, Write, Edit

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Define allowed directory roots, extensions, stable-file interval, event schema, idempotency key, and lifecycle states.
  2. Subscribe to the narrow COM event or local filesystem create/change signal required by the workflow.
  3. Canonicalize the path, reject escapes and disallowed types, and correlate it with an authorized job.
  4. Wait for stable size/time across bounded observations, then validate format, nonzero content, and checksum.
  5. Insert or update the durable event idempotently before invoking downstream work.
  6. Reconcile missed files, dead-letter repeated failures, emit metrics, and stop the watcher cleanly on shutdown.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cfae287. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Glob
    • Grep
    • WebFetch
    • Write
    • Edit

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • assets.techsmith.com
    • support.techsmith.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Designed for Claude Code; TechSmith product execution requires an approved Windows or macOS desktop as documented

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Techsmith Webhooks Events loads about 1.1k tokens when it runs, and up to ~2.1k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 88 tokens; SKILL.md has 434 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~88
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1.1k
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~2.1k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

TechSmith Local Capture and File Events

Overview

Snagit COM offers capture event callbacks or completion polling, while local files can be observed with an operating-system watcher; these are local signals, not authenticated vendor webhooks. This skill converts noisy callbacks into durable artifact-ready events only after the file is stable and valid.

Prerequisites

  • Approved local directory, artifact types, data classification, and retention
  • One durable event store with job identity, source path hash, and processing state
  • A bounded watcher lifetime, reconciliation interval, and shutdown behavior
  • Downstream consumer contract and quarantine destination

Tool Discipline

Use Read, Glob, and Grep to inspect local scripts, manifests, logs, and tests. Use WebFetch only for current primary TechSmith documentation. Use Write or Edit only after confirming the target repository file and approval boundary.

Current Contract

  • Prefer Snagit COM completion events where the client runtime supports them; otherwise use bounded IsCaptureDone polling.
  • Filesystem watcher notifications are hints and may duplicate, reorder, or omit events.
  • Do not emit artifact-ready until size and modification time stabilize and format validation passes.
  • Deduplicate by durable job/output identity and reconcile the directory periodically.

Licensing and Authentication

TechSmith desktop activation is not API authentication. Resolve individual sign-in versus business-key or approved offline activation before execution. Redact all keys, account identifiers, activation artifacts, and sensitive endpoint details.

Instructions

Approval Boundaries

Do not expose the watch directory over a public endpoint, call local events webhooks, process actively written project files, or upload an artifact before authorization and validation.

Output

Return watcher scope, event counts, deduplicated identities, stability/validation results, downstream acknowledgements, reconciled misses, dead letters, and shutdown state.

Error Handling

ConditionResponse
Duplicate notificationAcknowledge the existing durable identity without repeating side effects.
File never stabilizesQuarantine or defer it and preserve bounded metadata.
Watcher overflow or restartRun full allowlisted reconciliation from the last durable checkpoint.
Path not tied to an authorized jobReject it and alert without opening the media.

Examples

The example below shows the minimum redacted evidence expected from a successful invocation of this operator workflow.

text
signal=file-change; job=export-441; stable=3/3; checksum=recorded; event=artifact-ready; duplicates=2
