Serpapi Install Auth is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Install an official SerpAPI client, configure the private API key for server-side use, and verify account access without leaking credentials. Use when starting or repairing a SerpAPI integration. Trigger with "configure SerpAPI access".
Its SKILL.md is about 1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts. Compatibility notes: Designed for Claude Code; package installation, secret creation, account access, and live searches require operator approval
It sits in Backend & APIs, covering Backend development. It works with SerpApi, Python and Bash. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.
7 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.
Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cfae287. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.
Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:
ReadGlobGrepWebFetchWriteEditBash(python3:*)Bash(npm:*)Bash(curl:*)From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Shell commands in SKILL.md call:
python3npmFrom the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.
Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):
github.comserpapi.comFrom URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.
Names these keys or tokens, usually read from environment variables:
SERPAPI_KEYFrom names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.
Designed for Claude Code; package installation, secret creation, account access, and live searches require operator approval
From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.
Serpapi Install Auth loads about 1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 64 tokens; SKILL.md has 416 words of instructions outside code blocks.
Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.
The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.
Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.
The full file from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace at commit cfae287, republished under its MIT licence (© jeremylongshore). 416 words, ~1,046 tokens.
.claude/skills/serpapi-install-auth/SKILL.md (or your agent's skills folder).Select an official client, keep the private key server-side, and prove access with the free Account API before spending a search.
Use Read, Glob, and Grep to inspect dependency and configuration files, WebFetch to re-check official client and Account API documentation, Write or Edit for secretless configuration, and Bash(python3:*), Bash(npm:*), or Bash(curl:*) only after the operator approves installation or a live check.
SerpAPI's current official packages are serpapi for Python and serpapi for JavaScript. Search and Account APIs authenticate with the private api_key. The Account API reports current quota and throughput fields and does not count against the monthly search allowance.
Store the key as SERPAPI_KEY in a server-side secret manager. Never commit it, expose it to browser code, print it, place it in a fixture, or persist a command containing it in shell history. Do not assume OAuth, scopes, or multiple independently scoped keys unless current account documentation confirms them.
.gitignore, secret-loading convention, and deployment environment.python3 -m pip install serpapi or npm install serpapi after approval.SERPAPI_KEY to the approved local and deployment secret stores; add only variable names and redacted examples to tracked files.Return the selected client and pinned version, changed files, secret-store location, redacted Account API receipt, live-search decision, and rotation/revocation owner.
| Condition | Response |
|---|---|
401 Unauthorized | Confirm that the correct secret is loaded; never echo the value. |
403 Forbidden | Treat the account as unauthorized or disabled and stop. |
429 Too Many Requests | Query Account API to distinguish hourly throughput from exhausted searches. |
| Package collision | Remove legacy packages only through a reviewed migration plan. |
import os
import serpapi
client = serpapi.Client(api_key=os.environ["SERPAPI_KEY"], timeout=10)
account = client.account()
print({key: account.get(key) for key in (
"account_status", "plan_name", "plan_searches_left",
"account_rate_limit_per_hour",
)})Run the hello-world workflow with a harmless query and record its search ID without recording the key.
