What it does

Notion Reference Architecture is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Define a production reference architecture for Notion access, operations, queues, reconciliation, and evidence. Use when standardizing multiple integration workloads. Trigger with "build Notion reference architecture", "standardize Notion services", or "review Notion platform design".

Its SKILL.md is about 970 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/official-docs.md`). Compatibility notes: Designed for Claude Code; live Notion actions require network access and explicit approval

It sits in Business, Finance & HR, covering Accounting and bookkeeping. It works with Notion. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Standardizing multiple integration workloads
  • With build Notion reference architecture
  • Standardize Notion services
  • Review Notion platform design

Example prompts

  • “build Notion reference architecture”
  • “standardize Notion services”
  • “review Notion platform design”
  • “/notion-reference-architecture”

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Designed for Claude Code; live Notion actions require network access and explicit approval
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Glob, Grep, Write, Edit

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Define domain boundaries, sources of truth, tenant model, data classes, and service objectives.
  2. Specify adapters for current pages, blocks, databases, data sources, search, files, and webhooks.
  3. Place idempotency, checkpoints, backpressure, retry classification, and dead letters at explicit boundaries.
  4. Add reconciliation as a first-class service independent of webhook delivery.
  5. Define observability, evidence, privacy, retention, incident, and support interfaces.
  6. Document deployment stages, compatibility policy, failure modes, and tested rollback.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cfae287. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Glob
    • Grep
    • Write
    • Edit

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Designed for Claude Code; live Notion actions require network access and explicit approval

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Notion Reference Architecture loads about 970 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.5k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 79 tokens; SKILL.md has 380 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~79
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~970
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.5k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Notion Integration Reference Architecture

Overview

Define a production reference architecture for Notion access, operations, queues, reconciliation, and evidence.. This workflow produces an auditable decision or artifact before any live action.

Prerequisites

  • Current first-party Notion documentation and the selected integration's tested API-version contract.
  • A named workspace owner, content or data owner, and operation owner.
  • Synthetic or approved non-production fixtures with secrets and workspace content removed.

Current Contract

A durable architecture separates transport, auth, tenant binding, object identity, schema mapping, operation logic, queues, idempotency, webhooks, reconciliation, telemetry, and evidence storage. Recheck the dated evidence map before relying on mutable fields, endpoints, versions, limits, or delivery behavior.

Authentication

Centralize secret retrieval without centralizing plaintext. Bind every operation to connection, workspace, environment, capabilities, and approved content scope.

Instructions

  1. Define domain boundaries, sources of truth, tenant model, data classes, and service objectives.
  2. Specify adapters for current pages, blocks, databases, data sources, search, files, and webhooks.
  3. Place idempotency, checkpoints, backpressure, retry classification, and dead letters at explicit boundaries.
  4. Add reconciliation as a first-class service independent of webhook delivery.
  5. Define observability, evidence, privacy, retention, incident, and support interfaces.
  6. Document deployment stages, compatibility policy, failure modes, and tested rollback.

Tool Discipline

Use Read, Glob, and Grep to inspect documentation, configuration, code, fixtures, and evidence. Use Write and Edit only for approved repository artifacts. Invocation alone does not authorize network access, credentials, workspace content, user data, file transfer, deployment, capability or sharing changes, writes, spend, or deletion.

Approval Boundaries

Require architecture, security, and data-owner review before adopting shared tokens, shared queues, external processors, or cross-tenant stores.

Error Handling

  • Do not leak SDK response shapes directly into domain models.
  • Do not make webhook delivery the only recovery path.
  • Reject shared mutable state without tenant binding.

Output

Return context and component views, contracts, trust boundaries, failure modes, capacity assumptions, operational ownership, and rollout plan. Identify assumptions, owners, expirations, and evidence gaps explicitly.

Examples

  • Standardize query and write adapters behind domain operations.
  • Recover missed webhook signals through scheduled reconciliation.

Validation

Exercise and record these paths with expected and observed results:

  • tenant isolation
  • schema evolution
  • duplicate write
  • lost signal
  • queue outage
  • rollback

Resources

  • Current first-party evidence map — recheck dated sources before relying on mutable behavior.
  • Treat observed tenant behavior as environment-specific evidence, never a universal Notion guarantee.
