What it does

Navan Security Basics is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Threat-model a Navan integration across identity, travel, expense, payment, file, and downstream systems. Use when performing design or security review. Trigger with "secure Navan integration", "Navan threat model", or "review Navan data flow".

Its SKILL.md is about 960 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/official-docs.md`). Compatibility notes: Designed for Claude Code; live or external Navan actions require network access and explicit approval

It sits in Security, covering Threat modeling and Security review. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Designed for Claude Code; live or external Navan actions require network access and explicit approval
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Glob, Grep, Write, Edit

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Draw trust boundaries from Navan through every processor and destination.
  2. Classify credentials and traveler, itinerary, payment, receipt, profile, and location data.
  3. Minimize fields, purposes, destinations, retention, and human access.
  4. Model credential theft, tenant mix-up, injection, replay, exfiltration, and confused-deputy paths.
  5. Add deny-by-default network, logging, artifact, and AI-tool policies.
  6. Test detection, containment, revocation, reconciliation, and notification paths.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cfae287. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Glob
    • Grep
    • Write
    • Edit

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Designed for Claude Code; live or external Navan actions require network access and explicit approval

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Navan Security Basics loads about 963 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.3k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 67 tokens; SKILL.md has 398 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~67
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~963
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.3k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Navan Integration Security Boundary

Overview

Threat-model a Navan integration across identity, travel, expense, payment, file, and downstream systems. This workflow produces an auditable decision or artifact before any live action.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the selected tenant's current Navan Help Center and contracted integration documentation.
  • A named business owner and data owner for the travel or expense workflow.
  • A non-production evidence set with secrets and traveler data removed.

Current Contract

Navan states that its APIs undergo security testing and that data in transit and sensitive data at rest are encrypted. Those vendor controls do not replace customer-side least privilege, downstream encryption, retention, monitoring, or third-party AI governance.

Authentication

Use dedicated integration identities, scoped access, approved secret storage, host binding, rotation, and revocation. Keep interactive admin and automation credentials separate.

Instructions

  1. Draw trust boundaries from Navan through every processor and destination.
  2. Classify credentials and traveler, itinerary, payment, receipt, profile, and location data.
  3. Minimize fields, purposes, destinations, retention, and human access.
  4. Model credential theft, tenant mix-up, injection, replay, exfiltration, and confused-deputy paths.
  5. Add deny-by-default network, logging, artifact, and AI-tool policies.
  6. Test detection, containment, revocation, reconciliation, and notification paths.

Tool Discipline

Use Read, Glob, and Grep to inspect documentation, schemas, configuration, code, fixtures, and evidence. Use Write and Edit only for approved repository artifacts. Invocation alone does not authorize network access, credentials, traveler or expense data, bookings, payments, policy or identity changes, file transfers, deployments, or deletion.

Approval Boundaries

Any new processor, third-party AI or MCP connection, broader scope, production secret, cross-border transfer, or sensitive-data export requires security and data-owner approval.

Error Handling

  • Do not put traveler or receipt content in prompts or logs by default.
  • Certification badges are not authorization for a new use.
  • Fail closed on tenant, host, identity, or destination ambiguity.

Output

Return a data-flow diagram, threat register, control owners, residual risks, approval boundaries, and verification plan. Identify assumptions, owners, expirations, and evidence gaps explicitly.

Examples

  • Review a Booking API feed into a duty-of-care vendor.
  • Constrain an MCP assistant to a minimal approved itinerary view.

Validation

Exercise tenant isolation, revoked credentials, malicious fields, log redaction, unauthorized destination, and incident containment. Record expected and observed results, including fail-closed behavior.

Resources

  • Current first-party evidence map — recheck dated sources and the selected tenant's in-account contract before relying on mutable endpoints, fields, entitlements, limits, or delivery behavior.
  • Record tenant observations as environment-specific evidence, never universal Navan guarantees.
