What it does

Clickup Rate Limits is an agent skill from jeremylongshore/tons-of-skills-marketplace. Analyze and control ClickUp request concurrency from plan-aware per-token limits, response headers, bounded queues, and reset-based retries. Use when preventing or recovering from ClickUp 429 responses. Trigger with "ClickUp rate limit", "ClickUp 429", or "size ClickUp concurrency".

Its SKILL.md is about 1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 2 other files, including reference files (for example `references/official-docs.md`). Compatibility notes: Designed for Claude Code; live analysis requires sanitized ClickUp response headers

It sits in Backend & APIs, covering Rate limiting. The repository describes itself as: Model-agnostic agent-skills platform with a harness-free canonical layer, verified adapters, and the ccpi package manager. Explore at tonsofskills.com. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Recovering from ClickUp 429 responses
  • With ClickUp rate limit
  • Size ClickUp concurrency

Example prompts

  • “ClickUp rate limit”
  • “ClickUp 429”
  • “size ClickUp concurrency”
  • “/clickup-rate-limits”

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Designed for Claude Code; live analysis requires sanitized ClickUp response headers
  • Pre-approved tools (allowed-tools): Read, Glob, Grep, WebFetch, Write, Edit

Workflow steps

6 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Inventory tokens, Workspaces, plans, callers, endpoints, request bursts, and retry loops.
  2. Capture current headers from bounded calls and convert reset timestamps safely.
  3. Allocate budgets by priority and reserve explicit headroom for user and recovery operations.
  4. Implement a bounded queue/token bucket with jitter and a maximum elapsed retry time.
  5. Pause at 429 until reset; do not fan out retries or switch tokens to bypass policy.
  6. Load-test with synthetic work and verify throughput, fairness, queue age, and zero lost operations.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit cfae287. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves these tools, so the agent can use them without asking each time:

    • Read
    • Glob
    • Grep
    • WebFetch
    • Write
    • Edit

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

Links to these hosts (documentation or services it may open):

    • developer.clickup.com

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Designed for Claude Code; live analysis requires sanitized ClickUp response headers

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Clickup Rate Limits loads about 1k tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.6k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 76 tokens; SKILL.md has 408 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~76
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1k
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.6k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

ClickUp Rate-Limit Control

Overview

Size traffic from the token's observed budget and workload rather than hard-coded optimistic concurrency. Preserve headroom for every caller sharing that token.

Prerequisites

  • Sanitized X-RateLimit-Limit, Remaining, and Unix Reset values plus 429 history
  • The Workspace plan hosting the token and inventory of all callers sharing it
  • Queue, freshness, retry, and priority requirements

Tool Discipline

Use Read, Glob, and Grep to inspect the repository, adapters, configuration names, tests, and evidence. Use WebFetch only for current official ClickUp documentation. Use Write or Edit after confirming the target file, Workspace boundary, and requested mode.

Current Contract

  • Limits apply per personal or OAuth token and vary by the hosting Workspace plan.
  • Current published limits are 100 requests/minute for Free Forever, Unlimited, and Business; 1,000 for Business Plus; 10,000 for Enterprise.
  • A 429 response includes X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining, and X-RateLimit-Reset; reset is a Unix timestamp.
  • Plan values are ceilings, not target throughput; leave headroom for interactive and recovery traffic.

Authentication

Use a personal token only for accountable individual/testing work or OAuth Authorization Code for a user-facing integration. Inject the token server-side through a governed secret reference, send it in Authorization, verify authorized Workspace IDs, and never print the token, OAuth client secret, or webhook secret.

Instructions

Approval Boundaries

Do not upgrade a plan, add tokens to multiply limits, or starve interactive traffic without account and service-owner approval.

Output

Return observed limit/reset, caller inventory, concurrency and queue policy, headroom, test results, 429 rate, and alternatives.

Error Handling

ConditionResponse
Headers conflict with assumed planTrust observed authorized headers and re-check account facts.
Reset value is malformedStop automatic retry and use conservative operator review.
Queue exceeds freshness SLOReduce demand or choose an approved architecture change.
Retry storm detectedOpen the circuit and drain under a single scheduler.

Examples

The example below is a redacted operator receipt; it contains no task text, member data, credential, or webhook secret.

text
plan=business-plus; observed-limit=1000/min; allocated=720/min; headroom=28%; 429=0; queue-p95=9s
