What it does

Save Skill is an agent skill from IyadhKhalfallah/clauditor. Save what we just did as a reusable skill. Use at the end of a session to capture a workflow, technique, or process that you want to repeat.

Its SKILL.md is about 530 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in AI & LLM Engineering. The repository describes itself as: Stop Claude Code from burning through your quota in 20 minutes. Auto-rotates oversized sessions and preserves context. The licence is MIT.

Workflow steps

5 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Review the session: Look at what was accomplished — the tools used, files modified, commands run, and the overall workflow.
  2. Identify the reusable pattern: What was the core workflow or technique? Strip away project-specific details and extract the generalizable…
  3. Ask the user
  4. Create the skill: Write the SKILL.md file with
  5. Verify: Show the user the created skill and explain how to invoke it with /skill-name.

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 91e5b0d. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are yaml).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Save Skill loads about 527 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 38 tokens; SKILL.md has 215 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~38
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~527

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

description
Save what we just did as a reusable skill. Use at the end of a session to capture a workflow, technique, or process that you want to repeat.
disable-model-invocation
true

The user wants to save what was done in this session as a reusable Claude Code skill.

Steps

  1. Review the session: Look at what was accomplished — the tools used, files modified, commands run, and the overall workflow.

  2. Identify the reusable pattern: What was the core workflow or technique? Strip away project-specific details and extract the generalizable process.

  3. Ask the user:

    • "What should this skill be called?" (suggest a name based on what was done)
    • "Should this be a project skill (.claude/skills/) or a personal skill (~/.claude/skills/)?"
    • "Should only you be able to invoke it, or should Claude use it automatically when relevant?"
  4. Create the skill: Write the SKILL.md file with:

    • YAML frontmatter: name, description, and disable-model-invocation: true if user-only
    • Clear step-by-step instructions based on what was done
    • Use $ARGUMENTS for any variable parts (file names, branch names, etc.)
    • Keep it under 500 lines — move detailed reference to supporting files if needed
  5. Verify: Show the user the created skill and explain how to invoke it with /skill-name.

Example output

If the session involved setting up a new API endpoint:

.claude/skills/new-endpoint/SKILL.md
yaml
---
name: new-endpoint
description: Scaffold a new REST API endpoint with tests and documentation
disable-model-invocation: true
---

Create a new API endpoint for $ARGUMENTS:

1. Create the route handler in src/routes/
2. Add request/response validation schemas
3. Write integration tests
4. Update the API documentation
5. Run tests to verify

Important

  • Don't include project-specific file paths — use patterns like "src/routes/" not "/Users/alice/myproject/src/routes/"
  • Include any commands that should be run (test, lint, build)
  • If the workflow has multiple variants, use $ARGUMENTS to parameterize
