At a glance

Covers the near-kit TypeScript library for NEAR: reading contracts, sending tokens, transaction building, typed contracts, wallets, React hooks and sandbox testing.

  • Reading contract data or balances from NEAR in TypeScript
  • SKILL.md covers Quick Start, Import Cheatsheet, Core Operations and Type-Safe Contracts, plus 9 more sections
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md
  • Calling contract methods or sending NEAR tokens from a script

What it does

near-kit offers a fetch-like API, and the skill shows its core operations: view calls that are free and need no key, signed method calls, token sends, an untyped contract proxy and typed contract wrappers, plus a transaction builder that chains several actions into one atomic transaction.

Configuration sections cover private keys and key stores for backend scripts, and browser wallets through HOT Connect or Wallet Selector. React support comes from @near-kit/react, with a provider and hooks such as useNear, useView and useCall, and tests can run against a local Sandbox. Reference files go further on transactions, keys and testing, React and wallets, including meta-transactions (NEP-366) and message signing (NEP-413).

When your agent uses it

  • Reading contract data or balances from NEAR in TypeScript
  • Calling contract methods or sending NEAR tokens from a script
  • Creating type-safe wrappers around a NEAR contract
  • Connecting browser wallets or adding React hooks for NEAR
  • Testing NEAR code against a local sandbox

Example prompts

  • “Fetch the balance of alice.near and check whether bob.near exists using near-kit.”
  • “Chain two function calls into a single near-kit transaction.”
  • “Add the useView and useCall hooks from @near-kit/react to my app.”
  • “Write sandbox tests for my guestbook contract client.”

Requirements

  • A TypeScript project with the near-kit package

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit fa89195. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are typescript).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

near-kit for NEAR Protocol loads about 2k tokens when it runs, and up to ~8.3k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 118 tokens; SKILL.md has 151 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~118
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~2k
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~8.3k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

SKILL.md

Its licence (Custom licence) doesn't allow us to republish the file, so here is its outline and opening line. It has 151 words (~2,041 tokens).
