What it does

Test Driven Development is an agent skill from intent-driven-dev/intent-driven-template. Use when implementing a change with test-driven development (TDD): work test-first through focused red-green cycles.

Its SKILL.md is about 410 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. The skill folder holds 3 other files, including reference files (for example `references/best-practices.md` and `references/collaborators.md`).

It sits in Testing & QA, covering Test-driven development. The repository describes itself as: OpenSpec and OpenCode template for intent-driven development with specs, ADRs, C4 diagrams, Gherkin, TDD, Multi-Model Adversarial Spec Authoring, Glossary for Domain Terms, and… The licence is MIT.

Example prompts

  • “/test-driven-development”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 73f54d5. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md.

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Test Driven Development loads about 405 tokens when it runs, and up to ~1.2k if it reads all its reference files. Until then it costs about 35 tokens; SKILL.md has 197 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~35
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~405
With references · SKILL.md plus every file in references/, read only if the agent opens them
~1.2k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Test-Driven Development

Use the repository's existing test tooling and conventions.

One test, one behaviour, one reason to fail. A test name describes that one behaviour; never use joiners such as "and", "or", or "etc." to combine independent outcomes. Multiple assertions are acceptable only when together they establish that same behaviour.

Red

  • Select one observable behaviour from the requirement.
  • Write one test before changing implementation code.
  • Run the test and confirm it fails because the behaviour is missing, not because the test is broken.

Green

  • Write only enough implementation code to pass the failing test.
  • Run the test, then run the relevant suite.
  • Do not add behaviour without first seeing its test fail.

Refactor

  • Refactor only while the relevant suite is green, after completing a red-green slice.
  • Refactor either the tests or the implementation in one pass, not both.
  • Reuse shared setup, teardown, helpers, and parameterized structure when they clarify intent without combining behaviours.
  • Rerun the relevant suite after each refactor pass.

Patterns and anti-patterns

Read patterns and anti-patterns when choosing a test shape, writing examples, or deciding whether cases belong together.

Collaborators

Read collaborators before substituting a dependency. Mock system boundaries, not code owned by the application.
