What it does

Component Theme is an agent skill from indielayer/ui. Edit or add component theme classes and styles for shipped theme variants (base, carbon). Use when changing component appearance, Tailwind classes, theme tokens, Divider/Button themes, or files matching .theme.ts. To add a new shipped theme pack, use the add-theme skill.

Its SKILL.md is about 360 tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts.

It sits in Frontend & Design, covering CSS and styling and Design tokens. It works with Tailwind CSS and Vue.js. The repository describes itself as: Vue UI Library with Tailwind CSS 🚀 Build and prototype fast web applications. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Changing component appearance
  • Tailwind classes
  • Divider/Button themes
  • Files matching .theme.ts

Example prompts

  • “/component-theme”

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit a34ae6d. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

    Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

    From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

    No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are typescript).

    From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

    From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

    Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

    From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

Context cost

Component Theme loads about 360 tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 72 tokens; SKILL.md has 93 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~72
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~360

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Component theme

Files

For component <Name>, one file per shipped theme id (currently base, carbon):

  • theme/<Name>.<id>.theme.ts

Import *Theme from ../<Name>.vue.

Structure

ts
const theme: ButtonTheme = {
  classes: {
    wrapper({ props, slots, data }) { return ['...'] },
  },
  styles({ props, colors, css, data }) { /* CSS variables */ },
}
export default theme

Register

Export in every packages/ui/src/themes/<id>/components.ts (currently base, carbon).

Key must match the name used in useTheme('<Name>', ...).

Sync variants

When changing layout, states, or tokens in one variant, apply the same logical change to the others unless a design is intentionally different.

Reference: packages/ui/src/components/button/theme/Button.base.theme.ts

App-level defaults

Variant/layout booleans that should respect app.use(UI, { defaults }) must use optionalBooleanProp() from packages/ui/src/common/props.ts (not plain Boolean). Use useResolvedComponentProps when the template or script reads those props outside useTheme.
