Set up branch and folder naming rules for the current project

  • SKILL.md covers User Input, Prerequisites, Outline and Rules
  • Instructions only: no scripts, shell commands, URLs or credentials in SKILL.md

What it does

Speckit Branch Convention Configure is an agent skill from haru/redmine_ai_helper. Set up branch and folder naming rules for the current project

Its SKILL.md is about 1k tokens, which your agent loads only when the skill is triggered. It is a single SKILL.md file with no bundled scripts. Compatibility notes: Requires spec-kit project structure with .specify/ directory

It sits in Development, covering Spec-driven development. The repository describes itself as: A Redmine plugin that adds AI agents, MCP Server, smart completion, and vector search. The licence is MIT.

When your agent uses it

  • Tasks that involve Spec-driven development

Example prompts

  • “/speckit-branch-convention-configure”

Requirements

  • Compatibility (from SKILL.md): Requires spec-kit project structure with .specify/ directory

Workflow steps

2 steps, taken from the first numbered list in SKILL.md.

  1. Verify a spec-kit project exists by checking for .specify/ directory
  2. Check if a convention config already exists at .specify/branch-convention.yml

What it can do on your machine

Read from SKILL.md and the folder at commit 3cd87d6. It shows what the files ask for, not the result of running them.

  • Tool permissions

Pre-approves nothing: there is no allowed-tools line, so your agent's usual permission prompts apply.

From allowed-tools in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

  • Runs code

No scripts in the folder and no shell commands in SKILL.md (its code samples are yaml).

From the folder's file list and the shell code blocks in SKILL.md.

  • Network

    No URLs in SKILL.md.

From URLs in SKILL.md, links to its own repository left out.

  • Credentials

Names no API keys, tokens, secrets or passwords.

From names ending in _API_KEY, _TOKEN, _SECRET, _KEY or _PASSWORD in SKILL.md.

  • Compatibility

Requires spec-kit project structure with .specify/ directory

From compatibility in the SKILL.md frontmatter.

Context cost

Speckit Branch Convention Configure loads about 1k tokens when it runs. Until then it costs about 24 tokens; SKILL.md has 339 words of instructions outside code blocks.

Always · name and description, kept in context so the agent knows when to use it
~24
When it runs · the whole SKILL.md, loaded when a task matches
~1k

Estimates: characters ÷ 4, the usual rule of thumb; real counts depend on the model's tokenizer. Scripts and assets cost tokens only if the agent reads them.

Safety

Auto-check passed

The automated check found no risky patterns in SKILL.md.

Automated static check — not a guarantee. Review scripts before installing. It scans the text of SKILL.md for risky patterns (piping downloads into a shell, reading credential files, hidden Unicode, destructive commands); files beside SKILL.md are not scanned.

Branch Convention Configure Skill

Configure Branch Convention

Set up configurable naming rules for how /specify creates Git branches and spec folder names. Supports ticket IDs, GitFlow prefixes, date formats, and custom patterns.

User Input

text
$ARGUMENTS

You MUST consider the user input before proceeding (if not empty). The user may specify a preset (e.g., "gitflow", "ticket", "date") or provide custom patterns directly.

Prerequisites

  1. Verify a spec-kit project exists by checking for .specify/ directory
  2. Check if a convention config already exists at .specify/branch-convention.yml

Outline

  1. Determine convention type: Based on user input or interactive selection:

    PresetBranch PatternFolder PatternExample BranchExample Folder
    default{seq}-{kebab}{seq}-{kebab}003-user-auth003-user-auth
    gitflow{type}/{seq}-{kebab}{seq}-{kebab}feat/003-user-auth003-user-auth
    ticket{ticket}-{kebab}{ticket}-{kebab}PROJ-142-user-authPROJ-142-user-auth
    date{date}-{kebab}{date}-{kebab}20260408-user-auth20260408-user-auth
    customUser-defined patternUser-defined pattern——
  2. Collect configuration: Build the convention config with these fields:

    yaml
    # .specify/branch-convention.yml
    convention:
      branch_pattern: "{type}/{seq}-{kebab}"
      folder_pattern: "{seq}-{kebab}"
      type_prefix:
        feature: "feat"
        bugfix: "fix"
        hotfix: "hotfix"
        refactor: "refactor"
        docs: "docs"
      default_type: "feat"
      seq_padding: 3
      seq_start: 1
      date_format: "YYYYMMDD"
      ticket_pattern: "[A-Z]+-[0-9]+"
      max_length: 60
      separator: "-"
      lowercase: true
  3. Available tokens: Document these template tokens for patterns:

    TokenDescriptionExample
    {seq}Zero-padded sequence number003
    {kebab}Kebab-case feature summary (2-4 words)user-auth-flow
    {ticket}Ticket/issue ID (e.g., JIRA, Linear)PROJ-142
    {date}Date in configured format20260408
{type}Branch type prefix from type_prefix mapfeat
{summary}Raw feature summary (spaces allowed)user auth flow
  4. Write configuration: Save the convention to .specify/branch-convention.yml

  5. Validate existing branches (optional): If branches already exist, check them against the new convention and report any non-compliant ones.

  6. Report: Output a summary:

    • Convention type selected
    • Branch pattern and folder pattern configured
    • Example branch name using the new convention
    • Number of existing branches that comply / do not comply
    • Suggest next step: /speckit.branch-convention.validate to check compliance, or /speckit.specify to create a new feature using the convention
Show full SKILL.md (72 more words)Show less

Rules

  • Never overwrite without confirmation — if .specify/branch-convention.yml already exists, show current config and ask before replacing
  • Branch and folder patterns are independent — branch may include type prefix (feat/) while folder stays flat
  • Backward compatible — if no convention is configured, spec-kit default behavior ({seq}-{kebab}) applies
  • Validate patterns — ensure configured patterns produce valid Git branch names (no spaces, no special chars except /, -, _)
  • Preserve existing numbering — sequence numbers continue from the highest existing branch number
